About the\nrole The Project\nDirector – BESS (FlexGen) is accountable for leading the development and\ndelivery of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects through all stages —\nfrom pre-FEED and FEED to detailed design and handover to operations. This role is\nresponsible for developing and implementing traditional and innovative\nengineering solutions that ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective project\noutcomes. The Project Director will organise and manage all project personnel,\nincluding owners, engineers, contractors, and construction teams, to deliver\nagainst technical quality, schedule, and budget requirements. They will\noversee project planning, progress tracking, and resource allocation, ensuring\nall works are executed in accordance with company standards, governance, and\nsustainability goals. Key\nAccountabilities • Provide project management\n leadership across new growth and FlexGen projects, guiding the development\n activity of Drax Group., • Actively support both existing\n and new project development to enable future business growth., • Coordinate with the Project\n Engineering Manager to manage project consenting, planning, and strategy,\n ensuring all pre- and post-commencement conditions are efficiently\n discharged., • Manage relationships with local\n authorities, industry partners, and communities to maintain Drax’s\n reputation and social licence to operate., • Maintain and regularly\n review risk registers, proposing and managing risk mitigation\n measures., • Ensure collaboration with Finance\n Business Partners and Commercial Leads to provide accurate project\n information for financial models and budgets., • Develop and manage project\n development and construction budgets in line with corporate\n standards., • Oversee project performance\n monitoring, ensuring all deliverables are achieved on time, to quality,\n and within budget., • Coordinate mobilisation\n of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) teams for smooth transition to\n business-as-usual operations., • Resolve conflicts between project\n functions, packages, and EPC contractors as necessary., • Communicate project progress,\n performance, and key risks effectively to the Project Executive and\n stakeholders. You’ll be a\nstrategic leader with deep technical expertise, capable of driving complex\nenergy storage projects from concept to completion in a fast-evolving\nenvironment. • Proven experience in creating and\n implementing major transformation projects of high strategic\n importance., • Demonstrated experience\n in development and construction of BESS sites within the UK., • Experience operating in a client\n capacity, managing EPC/EPCM contractors and Owners’ Engineers across\n complex, high-value engineering programmes., • Desirable: experience working\n within a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) alongside a developer., • Outstanding leadership and\n technical capability, with the ability to manage multiple sites and\n projects simultaneously., • Proactive Safety Leader,\n promoting a “Safety First” culture across all areas of\n responsibility., • Strong communication and\n leadership skills, fostering collaboration and inclusion to achieve\n business objectives., • Strategic thinker and capable\n problem-solver with excellent decision-making skills., • Skilled in management,\n coordination, and communication, able to lead large matrix teams\n effectively., • Deep understanding of financial\n processes, including FP&A, IRR, NPV, and both OpEx and\n CapEx budgeting., • Highly developed interpersonal\n and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all\n levels., • Experience in\n managing high-value, complex engineering and construction\n programmes., • Ability to meet challenging\n targets and adapt to dynamic working environments., • Strong motivational and conflict\n resolution skills; able to inspire teams to deliver high\n performance.
