Banking - but fairer, more rewarding, and for the good of society What you’ll be doing Success in this role means delivering reliable, high-quality data solutions while continually developing your technical and business knowledge. You’ll take increasing ownership of your work, collaborate effectively across teams, apply strong data quality, security and governance practices, and demonstrate a growth mindset by embracing new technologies and challenges. You will develop and maintain data pipelines to ingest, transform and deliver data, writing clean, reliable and maintainable code in line with agreed engineering standards. The role involves building and supporting data tables, models and data products based on defined requirements, while performing data validation and quality checks to ensure outputs are accurate and complete. You will investigate and resolve data issues and pipeline failures, escalating more complex problems when required, and use engineering tools and platforms such as SQL, Python, Databricks and cloud technologies where relevant to the role. You will follow established development, testing, deployment and change-control processes and create and maintain appropriate technical documentation. A key part of the role is understanding and applying data security, access and governance requirements while working collaboratively with engineers, analysts, product teams and business stakeholders. You will participate in code reviews, testing and team delivery activities, taking ownership of well-defined engineering tasks and delivering them to agreed quality standards and timelines. The role also requires developing a strong understanding of the business domain and underlying data, not just the technical solution. You will build your technical capability through learning, feedback and hands‑on delivery, contribute ideas for automation, simplification and continuous improvement, and demonstrate increasing independence while seeking guidance appropriately for more complex engineering decisions. You will also stay connected to developments in AI and analytics, translating relevant advances into practical opportunities for Nationwide. • Experience with Databricks, dbt, Azure or similar data platforms, • Good understanding of DevOps tools and practices, • Experience working in an Agile delivery environment, • Strong communication and collaboration skills, • A growth mindset, with a passion for learning and taking on new challenges, • Experience working with regulated or sensitive data, • Proven experience developing and deploying production solutions using Python and SQL, • Experience using GitHub (or equivalent) with version control, code reviews, testing and CI/CD practices, • Strong understanding of data modelling, semantic layers, metrics and data governance principles, • Proven ability to assess new technologies through proof-of-concepts and translate findings into scalable solutions, • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams, including product, engineering, data governance, security and risk stakeholders, • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences, • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of complex technical deliverables from design through to implementation Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role: • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind, • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand, • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development, • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
