Senior Buyer – Civil Engineering / Construction Location: Havant Salary: £45,000 - £48,000 Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Overview We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Buyer to join a well-established civil engineering and construction business. Reporting directly to the Procurement Manager, this role will play a key part in managing the supply chain, supporting the Procurement Team, and ensuring materials, plant, and services are procured efficiently, on time, and within budget. Key Responsibilities • Source new and alternative materials, suppliers, and subcontractors, • Meet with supplier representatives and negotiate commercial terms and rates, • Maintain strong communication with internal departments, particularly Contracts and Estimating, • Support Buyers in procuring materials, services, plant, and equipment from procurement schedules, • Extract global material requirements from tender documentation, • Produce cost/value reports and life-cycle cost analysis for Senior Management, • Arrange the transfer of materials and plant between sites and Head Office when required, • Provide market-competitive procurement solutions delivering best overall value for money, • Obtain quotations for specified materials and alternatives for Estimators, negotiating best prices, • Ensure all quotes comply with specifications, delivery requirements, and QHSE standards, • Assist the Procurement Manager in embedding sustainable procurement principles, • Support the day-to-day running of the Procurement Department and deputise for the Procurement Manager when required, • Attend contract handover meetings, • Distribute orders and procurement information to sites and relevant stakeholders, • Assist with planning, organising, and allocating procurement workloads, • Support the training and development of team members, including apprentices Skills & Knowledge • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills, • Data analysis and cost reporting capability, • Good understanding of material specifications and compliance, • Knowledge of QHSE legislation, • People management and leadership skills, • Understanding of ISO management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001), • Knowledge of FSC & PEFC timber chain of custody systems Experience • Proven experience in Procurement & Supply Chain Management, • Experience within Civil Engineering or Construction, • Experience supporting and managing procurement teams
