Role: HSEQ Engineer Location: Preston / Chorley / Bolton / Lancashire (with occasional site visits - around 1–2 days per month) Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum, depending on experience Benefits: 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, pension with 10% employer contribution Working hours: 8:00–16:30 Monday to Thursday, 8:00–13:00 Friday Flexible working: Opportunity to work from home a couple of days per week, subject to project needs The client Our client are a UK-based engineering and industrial-plant business specialising in bespoke bulk materials handling systems and full process plant solutions. Our expertise covers the full project lifecycle – from feasibility studies and technical consultation through to EPCM/EPC contracts, construction, installation, commissioning, and long-term maintenance. We deliver solutions for clients across mining, cement, aggregates, food, alternative fuels, biomass, tunnelling, infrastructure, and ports, both in the UK and internationally. Purpose of role: Support projects with HSEQ input while helping to improve the business integrated management system (IMS/QMS). HSEQ Engineer duties & responsibilities: • Participate in project kick-off meetings to ensure QHSE standards and requirements are embedded from the outset, • Develop and maintain project SHEQ plans and related documentation, • Support project managers to ensure QHSE plans are followed throughout the project lifecycle, • Ensure non-conformances and near misses are recorded, tracked and closed out, • Drive a culture of continuous improvement across quality, health, safety and environmental performance, • Deliver and support an internal audit schedule, • Carry out QHSE audits against internal procedures and relevant standards, • Provide clear reporting and escalation of QHSE issues to senior stakeholders, • Assist in issue management and corrective/preventive actions across projects, • Use MS Office and SharePoint to manage documentation, records and reports, • Work closely with project managers and engineers to interpret and apply engineering drawings and specifications, • Ensure QHSE requirements are considered in design, procurement, construction and commissioning activities, • Contribute to the redevelopment of the integrated management system from the ground up, including procedures and templates, • Embrace a high-volume, admin-heavy workload during the first 6–12 months as systems are rebuilt and processes are still manual Person specification • Experience: 2–5 years in a QHSE, HSE or quality-focused engineering/project environment, • Ability to demonstrate clear career growth and increasing responsibility over time, • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and technical specifications, • Highly motivated, driven and keen to progress within a growing business over the next 5–10 years, • Preference for candidates based in or near Adlington to enable close support and development, • Personal style: Hands-on, resilient and prepared to work hard through a challenging, change-heavy period, • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to challenge, consult and influence project teams on QHSE matters Qualifications • Essential: NEBOSH qualification, • Essential: Level 3 (or similar) qualification in engineering or a closely related discipline, • Desirable: Internal or lead auditor qualification (any standard) Interested?
