Role Overview As an Assistant Manager at JD Sports, you are a key force behind your store’s success. You support from the front — motivating your team, driving performance alongside the Store Manager, and ensuring every shift delivers strong results. You help inspire your people to excel, uphold high standards, and move the store toward ambitious sales targets and operational excellence. This role is all about confident leadership, strong commercial awareness, and the ability to elevate your team so the store achieves outstanding success together. Key Responsibilities • Support the Store Manager with daily store operations to help achieve sales targets and core KPIs., • Lead and guide colleagues on the shop floor, allocating tasks, supporting service delivery, and maintaining JD standards throughout the day., • Assist with coaching and development, offering real-time feedback and reinforcing expectations set by the Store Manager., • Maintain JD’s high presentation and operational standards, including availability, pricing accuracy, tidy displays, and a safe environment., • Carry out core operational duties such as cash handling support, till checks, delivery processing, stock audits, and opening/closing routines — escalating issues appropriately. Skills & Experience Required • Previous experience in a retail management or supervisory role, such as Assistant Store Manager or Supervisor, demonstrating readiness to support leadership., • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide, develop, and motivate staff while reinforcing store priorities., • Confident interpreting KPI and sales data to support commercial decision-making and shift focus., • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, supporting colleagues and ensuring professional customer interactions., • Proven success driving sales performance and contributing to KPI achievement in a retail environment.     As a Welder, you will support production by welding piece parts and sub-assemblies using a range of welding techniques in accordance with specifications, engineering drawings, work instructions and quality standards. What you will do: • Carry out welding of components in line with specifications, drawings and procedures, • Obtain authorisation from the Welding Engineer or Welding Specialist before undertaking coded welding, • Set up and prepare weld surfaces and equipment, • Ensure all welding equipment is inspected and calibrated prior to use, • Monitor consumables and support stock control activities, • Maintain rod stores and record temperature/humidity levels in line with procedures, • Log work using ERP systems (e.g. Epicor) to maintain booking compliance, • Meet production routing times and customer requirements, • Maintain high standards of quality, health & safety and housekeeping (5S), • Adhere to all Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures, • Support continuous improvement and Lean initiatives Rotating Shift Pattern • Week 1: 06:00 - 14:15, • Week 2: 14:15 - 22:30 What you will need: • Time served welding apprenticeship, • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a coded welder in an engineering environment, • Ability to weld to coded standards and maintain coded welder certification, • Ability to weld open-root pipe or plate using TIG (GTAW), MMA/SMAW and MAG (GMAW) processes, • Ability to work with carbon and stainless steels across a range of thicknesses, • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and welding procedures, • Coded welding qualifications against approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs) and applicable standards, such as ISO, ASME or AWS, • Experience of welding work subject to inspection using UT, RT or other non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, • Experience in a manufacturing environment involving pressure vessels or piping systems, including critical components welded to recognised standards, • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, • Experience in brazing is essential; hands-on experience in torch or induction brazing would be desirable As part of the interview process, applicants will be asked to weld test pieces to demonstrate their practical skills. All candidates must be able to prove that they have the right to work in the UK. We maintain our own mixed fleet of commercial vehicles, trailers and specialist transport equipment, while also providing repair and maintenance services for external customers. Working Hours • Monday to Friday: 08:00 – 18:00, • Alternate Saturdays: 08:00 – 13:00, • Overtime available when required. Your Responsibilities • Servicing, maintaining and repairing HGVs, trailers and light commercial vehicles., • Diagnosing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults., • Carrying out inspections and preventative maintenance., • Preparing vehicles and trailers for MOT., • Maintaining high standards of workmanship and workshop safety., • Completing work on both company vehicles and customer vehicles. What We're Looking For • Experience as an HGV Technician, • Newly qualified Level 3 HGV Technicians are encouraged to apply – full support and development will be provided., • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills, or a willingness to learn., • Ability to work independently and as part of a team., • A positive attitude with pride in producing quality work., • Full UK driving licence essential., • A Class 1 (Category C+E) licence would be a distinct advantage, but is not essential.
