SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children with special educational needs?My client is looking for a dedicated, patient, and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join their supportive and welcoming team. About the Role As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider staff team to support pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, social/emotional needs, and learning delays. Your role will be vital in helping pupils develop confidence, independence, and a love of learning. This position suits someone caring, adaptable, and resilient, with a genuine passion for helping children achieve their full potential. Key Responsibilities Pupil Support • Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND., • Adapt activities and resources to meet individual learning needs., • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation using agreed strategies., • Support pupils with communication, sensory needs, and social development., • Assist the class teacher in delivering targeted interventions., • Prepare specialist resources, visuals, and learning aids to support SEN pupils., • Implement support plans, EHCP targets, and behaviour strategies., • Assist pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and school activities., • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including external professionals., • Maintain accurate records and follow safeguarding procedures. Essential • A nurturing, calm, and positive approach when supporting children., • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils., • Good communication and teamwork skills., • Understanding of SEND and willingness to learn specialist approaches., • Experience supporting pupils with SEN in a school or childcare setting., • Knowledge of autism-friendly practices, sensory needs, or emotional regulation strategies., • Experience delivering interventions such as phonics, speech & language activities, or social skills., • A friendly, inclusive, and supportive school community., • A strong commitment to staff development, including SEN-specific training., • Opportunities to make a life-changing impact on children’s education and wellbeing., • A collaborative team that values your ideas and contribution.
