    PURPOSE OF THE ROLE To work within the Volution Ventilation Group, Technical Team, as a Firmware Design Engineer, reporting to the Technical Manager - Controls, to design and support embedded firmware for ventilation control systems design to meet the required specifications within the agreed timescale and to the group’s coding standards. KEYAREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY • Design, develop & review firmware for embedded ventilation control systems, in-line with group coding and platform guidelines/standards., • Design from marketing brief through to implementation, inventive, innovative, manageable and cost-effective solutions for ventilation equipment, i.e. fans and heat recovery products. The primary focus is embedded control systems which control variable speed motors and sensors, IOT Gateway devices and HMI displays., • Fault-finding of controls & firmware, including use of standard debugging techniques., • Participate in firmware architecture and technical design reviews., • Contribute to root cause analysis and resolution of field issues., • Support manufacturing, verification and validation activities during product introduction., • Work closely with electronics, mechanical, test, product management, manufacturing, product technical support and field install personnel teams to ensure successful product delivery., • Write, update and review detailed product design, firmware specification and system test documents to ensure all requirements are met, throughout the whole product life-cycle., • Ability to communicate concepts, unit and system level designs, design validation test results and progress of projects to core team & leadership., • Contribute to continuous improvement of coding standards, development processes and tools., • Follow the Volution Engineering Change revision process., • To create and work with additional data and documentation as required, including the use of an MRP database and Zoho project manager systems., • To plan, monitor, and control workload and progress, ensuring deliverables are achieved against agreed timescales., • To work in a small team environment, with the varied responsibilities that entails including supporting colleagues as required., • To become a valued member within the group controls community., • Work with other departments and external parties as required. To support or carry out activities at other Volution Group Companies as required., • To carry out any other reasonable tasks as requested by the Engineering Team Leaders., • To always work safely without putting themselves, colleagues, or members of the public at risk. ESSENTIAL SKILLSANDEXPERIENCE • Embedded C/C++ firmware development for electronic products, taking development from concept to final release., • Degree qualified in Electronic / Software / Computer Engineering or related subjects or equivalent experience., • Experience developing for resource-constrained embedded systems (8 to 32bit) using both bare-metal and RTOS environments., • Experience of digital communication & signalling methods, ideally including RS485, Modbus RTU, SPI, I2C, PWM, ADC., • Experience of commissioning and debugging prototype / newly-developed hardware & embedded platforms, including use of hardware tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analysers., • Working knowledge of software tools for embedded software development including Git-based version control, code review workflows and continuous integration., • Experience of devising high-performance, cost-effective, optimised firmware architectures, including modularity / layered techniques, maximising opportunity for code re-use., • Analysis & optimisation of existing firmware projects., • Ability to write comprehensive technical design documentation., • Ability to communicate concepts, unit and system level designs, design validation test results and progress of projects to core team & leadership., • Proficient in the use of relevant Microsoft Office Tools, such as Word, Excel and Outlook., • Strong written, and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. DESIRABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE • Knowledge of ARM Cortex M, PIC & and ESP32 MCUs., • Knowledge of IoT (Bluetooth, TCP/UDP/IP, MQTT) and Sub-GHz RF., • Low-power firmware techniques.

What you’ll bring We’re looking for someone who: · Holds a relevant qualification (e.g. RICS or similar) or has strong hands-on experience in building surveying, construction, or maintenance. · Has a solid understanding of health & safety legislation and building safety regulations (e.g. Fire Safety Act, Building Safety Act). · Has proven experience managing building compliance, contracts, and external contractors within a housing or similar environment. · Demonstrates strong technical knowledge of fire safety systems, building regulations, and maintenance best practices. · Has experience managing budgets, contracts, and delivering projects to time, cost, and quality targets. · Is highly organised, customer-focused, and able to build strong relationships with stakeholders and teams. · Has a Full UK driving licence and has access to their own reliable transport.
