The surgical coordinator is responsible for the scheduling and coordination of cataract and glaucoma surgery. The individual will schedule surgical cases while also serving as a point of contact for patients, the surgeon, and staff during and after procedures. Responsible for answering and triaging telephone calls, collecting and communicating patient information to the appropriate individuals, and completing administrative tasks to ensure efficient workflow and patient care. Must demonstrate good time management skills and the ability to work independently.
We are also seeking a dedicated and skilled Ophthalmic Technician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in ophthalmology, patient care, and medical office procedures, with a focus on delivering exceptional service and support to both patients and clinicians. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in assisting with eye examinations, patient intake, and clinical procedures while maintaining the highest standards of safety, accuracy, and professionalism. Your expertise in optical systems, medical records, and clinic operations will contribute to providing comprehensive eye care services in a fast-paced environment.
Duties

  • Perform patient intake by collecting detailed medical histories, current symptoms, and relevant information with professionalism and empathy.
  • Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation to assist clinicians in diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Conduct preliminary eye tests, including visual acuity assessments, intraocular pressure measurements, and refraction procedures using specialized ophthalmic equipment.
  • Assist ophthalmologist during examinations and procedures by preparing instruments, maintaining aseptic technique, and ensuring patient comfort.
  • Maintain accurate and organized medical records within electronic health record (EHR) systems while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
  • Support optical services by assisting with frame selection, lens measurements, and retail sales of eyewear products.
  • Ensure clinic cleanliness by following strict aseptic techniques and infection control protocols to prevent contamination or cross-infection.
  • Educate patients on eye health, medication usage, and post-procedure care to promote understanding and compliance.
  • Collaborate with front desk staff to facilitate smooth patient flow, appointment scheduling, billing processes, and medical coding activities related to ophthalmic services.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy of the eye, physiology related to vision health, and clinic operations to support comprehensive patient care.
  • Contribute to team efforts by participating in training sessions on new technologies or procedures relevant to ophthalmology.
    Experience
  • Prior experience working in an ophthalmology or optometry clinic is highly preferred; familiarity with clinical workflows is essential.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ophthalmic instrumentation such as tonometers, autorefractors, slit lamps, and visual field analyzers.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or similar platforms for documentation and data management.
  • Background in medical office administration, including appointment scheduling, billing, coding (ICD-10/CPT), and insurance processing, is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of patient information at all times.
  • Proven ability to perform clinical tasks such as vital sign measurement, basic ocular assessments, and patient education effectively.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology related to ophthalmology along with anatomy and physiology of the eye enhances diagnostic support skills.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations is a plus; adaptability in fast-paced environments is essential.
