Job Description K-1 Beyond the Bell Classroom Aide The A. Fantis School | After School Program Location: 195 State Street, Brooklyn, NY Type: Part-Time Compensation: $20/hour Regular Schedule: Monday-Friday, 2:00 pm-6:00 pm, with opportunities for additional hours (see below) Position The A. Fantis School's After School Program is seeking a warm, dependable, and engaged K-1 Beyond the Bell (BTB) Classroom Aide to join our team and help create a safe, joyful, and enriching after-school environment for our Kindergarten and 1st grade students. Working alongside the K-1 BTB Group Leader, the Classroom Aide plays an important role in the daily flow of the classroom - helping students transition smoothly between activities, distributing and supervising snack, supporting homework and activity stations, preparing students for enrichment clubs, and offering attentive, caring supervision throughout the afternoon. The ideal candidate genuinely enjoys working with young children and brings patience, warmth, attentiveness, flexibility, and positive energy to the classroom. They should be able to work collaboratively with the Group Leader and wider Beyond the Bell team while also independently recognizing and responding to the needs of students and the classroom. Additional Opportunities In addition to their regular weekly schedule, the K-1 BTB Classroom Aide may have the opportunity to work additional hours through the following programs: • Extended Beyond the Bell: An extended 11:00 am-6:00 pm shift offered on designated early-dismissal days., • Break Camp: Full-day shifts offered during select school holidays and school breaks. Essential Duties • Work collaboratively with the Lead K–1 Beyond the Bell Group Leader to maintain a safe, welcoming, and engaging classroom environment for Kindergarten and 1st grade students, bringing a genuine interest in supporting young children to the role., • Support positive student behavior through clear expectations, consistency, encouragement, and age-appropriate redirection, using a patient, warm, and attentive approach to supervision and engagement., • Help foster positive relationships among students and support children in navigating social interactions, conflicts, and transitions throughout the afternoon, helping every child feel safe, supported, included, and excited to participate., • Become familiar with After School transition, attendance, dismissal, and emergency procedures, and be prepared to assist with student transitions or dismissal when additional coverage is needed., • Support the overall flow and routines of the K–1 classroom, anticipating needs and assisting the Lead Teacher in keeping students engaged and the program running smoothly, adapting flexibly as classroom and program needs shift., • Provide attentive supervision and direct care to multiple students simultaneously throughout the afternoon., • Assist with crafts, games, activity stations, structured and unstructured play, and other age-appropriate programming., • Lead crafts, games, or activities independently when requested or when appropriate to support the needs of the group., • Support students with homework completion as needed., • Help prepare and organize classroom materials, activity stations, and supplies, and assist with maintaining an orderly shared classroom space., • Help students prepare for enrichment clubs and other activities, including organizing groups and lining up students for transitions., • Maintain strong situational awareness of students' whereabouts throughout the afternoon and assist in keeping accurate attendance and student counts., • Communicate clearly and collaboratively with the Lead Teacher and other BTB staff regarding student needs, attendance, behavior, and schedules, and work professionally with families, teachers, and enrichment instructors as needed., • Participate in emergency procedures and follow all school policies related to student safety, supervision, attendance, and authorized release, taking initiative to recognize when additional support is needed., • Walk throughout the school building, including up and down multiple flights of stairs, during each shift. Preferred Education & Experience • Experience working specifically with Kindergarten and/or 1st grade students is strongly preferred., • Prior experience working with elementary-aged children in an after-school program, school, camp, childcare, or similar youth-serving environment., • Experience assisting with or leading age-appropriate crafts, games, recreational activities, or enrichment programming., • Associate's degree preferred, preferably in education, child development, or a related field. Schedule, Compensation & Start Date • Compensation: $20/hour, • Start Date: September 14, 2026, • Staff Training/Orientation: Required training and orientation will take place prior to the start date; exact date and time TBD., • Regular Schedule: Monday-Friday, 2:00 pm-6:00 pm, on days when school is in session., • Extended Beyond the Bell Days: 11:00 am-6:00 pm on designated early-dismissal days., • Break Camp: Full-day shifts during select school holidays and breaks; exact dates and hours will be communicated in advance.
