Job Description Job Title: Machinst Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled machinst with deep expertise in progressive die stamping to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for building, maintaining, and troubleshooting progressive stamping dies used in production environments. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in toolmaking for metal stamping applications, particularly in designing and servicing multi-station progressive dies for tight-tolerance components. Responsibilities • Design, build, assemble, and fit progressive stamping dies according to blueprints, CAD models, and specifications., • Set up and operate manual and CNC machinery (mills, lathes, grinders, EDM) to fabricate die components with precision., • Troubleshoot die performance issues on the production press line, identifying root causes of part defects, misfeeds, or tool wear., • Perform die maintenance, sharpening, and repair to support consistent production output and minimize downtime., • Assist with die tryouts and first-article inspections to ensure tools meet part quality standards and dimensional accuracy., • Modify dies based on engineering changes or quality feedback from production and quality teams., • Interpret and apply GD&T, material specifications, and stamping tolerances in die design and adjustment., • Mentor junior toolmakers and apprentices in best practices for die build and maintenance., • Collaborate with engineers, press operators, and quality control to optimize die performance and part consistency., • 10+ years of hands-on experience as a Tool and Die Maker with a strong focus on progressive die stamping., • Proven expertise in building, maintaining, and troubleshooting multi-station progressive dies for high-volume metal stamping., • Proficient in reading complex blueprints, tool designs, and CAD drawings., • Skilled in manual machining and operation of CNC mills, surface grinders, wire/sinker EDM, and related equipment., • Solid understanding of die clearance, timing, punch alignment, carrier strip progression, and press setup., • Familiarity with high-speed presses, coil feeding systems, and in-die sensors is highly preferred., • Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam)., • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure., • Completion of a certified Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship program is preferred., • Experience in automotive, appliance, or industrial stamping environments is advantageous. Work is performed in a tool room and pressroom environment with regular exposure to heavy machinery, noise, and manufacturing conditions. Requires lifting (up to 50 lbs), standing for long periods, and wearing proper PPE. Occasional overtime or weekend work may be needed during peak production. The culture is results-oriented with a small tool room department. Dress code includes steel toes and jeans/dickies. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bethlehem, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
