Job Description Job Title: Senior Design/Development Product Engineer Reports to: Product Lifecycle Engineering Manager Department: Engineering Location: HQ – Allentown, PA FLSA Status: Exempt Shift/Hours: 1st Shift (08:00 am – 5:00 pm) Summary The Senior Design/Development Product Engineer analyzes, designs, develops, and tests cryogenic refrigeration products. Responsibilities span the full product life cycle of requirements, conceptual design, performance optimization, manufacturability, reliability, serviceability, and cost. Stewardship of existing products through feature enhancement, product improvements, cost reduction, obsolescence management, and manufacturing support is included. The role also supports new product development, customer support, and global service training, with hands-on testing, troubleshooting and root cause analysis. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Execute engineering design, analysis, and evaluation in accordance with business standards, engineering procedures, company work processes and program requirements., • Plan, develop, and run qualification tests for components and prototypes; ensure designs meet functional and performance specifications., • Demonstrated ability to apply statistical design tools such as DOE, regression analysis, tolerance analysis, and capability studies (Cp/Cpk) to optimize product performance. Proficiency in Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies, including applying DMAIC/DMADV frameworks to reduce variation and improve design robustness, preferred., • Prepare and maintain technical documentation (specifications, SOPs, user manuals, protocols, validation reports, and design history)., • Provide technical support and advanced troubleshooting for internal teams, field technicians, distributors, and customers; determine root cause and report failure information., • Identify tooling requirements; design, develop, and maintain tooling for production and field service., • Develop and deliver production and field service training; collaborate with global service teams., • Support sales with technical expertise for new sales and service requests., • Review and improve processes to simplify operations, increase yield, and reduce variability; lead studies to recommend changes., • Participate in technical and program reviews as a presenter or reviewer., • Prepare project plans, timelines, budgets, and capital requests. Education • Technical expertise supporting design, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical machines, systems and devices., • Experience using test equipment to troubleshoot mechanical, thermal, and electrical issues., • Ability to read schematics and technical specifications; hands-on skills (e.g., brazing copper tube, mechanical assembly, board-level replacement, etc.)., • Skilled in using statistical software (e.g., Minitab, JMP, or equivalent) to analyze data, validate hypotheses, and support data‑driven decision‑making., • Ability to perform risk‑reduction analysis using tools such as FMEA, reliability analysis, and Monte Carlo simulations to ensure robust product design., • Capable of developing statistically sound test plans to verify and validate engineering designs., • Experience with tooling for electrical/mechanical parts and dimensional accuracy., • Proficiency with GD&T, SolidWorks, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; ability to learn new business software., • Strong mechanical aptitude and analytical skills; knowledge of CAD, mechanical stress analysis, fluid flow, heat transfer, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics., • Knowledge of regulatory standards (PED, UL, IEC, RoHS) and design of electrically controlled equipment and control systems compliant with safety standards., • Strong organizational and project management skills, including accurate cost estimation, scheduling, producing project plans and managing resources., • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills; effective with technical and non-technical audiences., • Proven problem-solving and decision-making skills; able to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment and through ambiguity., • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; self-directed with attention to detail., • Customer-centric, proactive, and dependable with high ethical standards., • Working knowledge of logistics and inventory software; Epicor experience is a plus., • Ability to pass background checks/clearances as required by customers. Individual contributor role with no direct reports. Travel Occasional domestic and international travel (up to 10%). Physical Demands Frequent sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, and manual dexterity; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs; normal hearing and vision required.
