Job Description The Allure Group is a consortium of six rehabilitation centers across Brooklyn and Manhattan, NY, specializing in post-acute and sub-acute skilled nursing and rehabilitation. As a Assistant Director of Nursing at The Harlem Center, you will be an integral part of our compassionate team, working to improve the health and quality of life of our residents. Job Summary: The primary role of the Assistant Director of Nursing is to assist in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the daily operations of the Nursing Department. This is in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility, as directed by the Administrator, Medical Director, and/or Director of Nursing Services, to ensure the highest standard of quality care at all times. Delegation of Authority: As the Assistant Director of Nursing, you are delegated the necessary administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to carry out your assigned duties. In the absence of the Director of Nursing Services, you are responsible for ensuring that resident care policies are followed. Job Functions: Every effort has been made to identify the essential functions of this position. Duties and Responsibilities Administrative Functions: • Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the daily operations of the nursing department in accordance with applicable rules and regulations., • Contribute to the development, maintenance, and regular updating of nursing department policies and procedures., • Ensure the availability and currency of reference materials (e.g., PDRs, federal and state regulations) at nursing stations and recommend relevant written materials to support daily nursing needs., • Ensure the Nursing Policy and Procedures Manual remains current and reflective of daily operations., • Report to the Director with written and oral recommendations concerning nursing department operations., • Review and update nursing department policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions as necessary, recommending revisions to the Director of Nursing Services., • Help coordinate nursing services with other resident services for continuous care delivery., • Ensure all nursing service personnel follow their job descriptions and participate in updating job descriptions in compliance with legal standards (e.g., Americans with Disabilities Act, OSHA regulations)., • Assist in the development, maintenance, and execution of the facility's quality assurance program for the nursing department., • Participate in facility surveys and inspections by government agencies as required by the Administrator or Director of Nursing Services., • In the absence of the Director, participate in various facility committees (e.g., Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Budget, Quality Assurance & Assessment)., • Assist in preparing reports on nursing programs and activities for committee submission., • Participate in policy development for the administration, storage, and control of medications and supplies., • Schedule and attend Care Plan Committee meetings and contribute to the development of care plans and resident discharge plans., • Assist in determining staffing needs for the nursing department and assist in recruiting nursing personnel., • Ensure adequate staffing of licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants for each shift to maintain quality care., • Develop work assignments and duty schedules for nursing personnel., • Monitor absenteeism and ensure adequate coverage at all times, reporting concerns to the Director., • Ensure that nursing assistants are enrolled in approved training programs., • Oversee the professional licensing status of nurses and provide timely reminders about license renewal., • Address complaints and grievances from nursing staff, ensuring fair and impartial disciplinary action when necessary., • Participate in resident admission processes, including PASARR screenings, and provide relevant nursing information to assist in evaluating care needs., • Ensure rooms are prepared for new admissions, and greet residents upon arrival., • Make rounds with physicians as necessary and ensure timely physician visits., • Ensure that nursing care is delivered by appropriately trained and licensed personnel., • Review nurses' notes to confirm the care plan is followed and care is provided in accordance with residents' preferences., • Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure medications are administered and treatments are delivered as ordered., • Assist in planning, conducting, and scheduling in-service training for nursing staff to ensure a well-educated and efficient team., • Develop and maintain a thorough orientation program for new employees., • Participate in leadership training programs to enhance supervisory and administrative skills., • Ensure the nursing assistant training curriculum is up-to-date and meets regulatory standards., • Work in office areas as well as throughout the nursing service areas (e.g., drug rooms, nurses' stations, resident rooms)., • Intermittent movement throughout the day and frequent interruptions., • Work under emotionally charged conditions, interacting with residents, family members, and staff in challenging situations., • Must possess a Nursing Degree from an accredited institution., • At least 2 year(s) of experience as a supervisor in a healthcare facility, preferably in long-term care., • Ability to make independent decisions in critical situations., • Effective communication skills and ability to manage relationships with residents, family members, staff, and external agencies., • Strong leadership skills and willingness to collaborate with others., • Ability to move throughout the workday and interact with residents, staff, and families., • Must be able to speak and write in an understandable manner., • Ability to handle the mental and emotional stress of the position., • Ability to see and hear, or use prosthetics to enable these senses., • Valid New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license., • Strong knowledge of nursing practices, procedures, and regulations, especially those related to long-term care., • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills., • Previous experience in a
