Job Description Department: Systems Maintenance Pay Grade: 7 FLSA Status: Exempt JOB SUMMARY This position performs skilled work in the electrical maintenance and repair of water/wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and related equipment. May work independently or as a crew leader with other electricians, mechanics, laborers, and the pump station operators during repair assignments and assists in developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs and maintaining detailed records. An individual in this position is on 24-hour call, 7 days a week. This position reports to the Maintenance Mechanic Superintendent. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Maintains, repairs, adjusts, and performs preventive maintenance on electrical equipment including motors, switch gears, molded case breakers, over current relays, starter contactors, reduced voltage starters, transformer controls, electronic controls, gauges, flow meters, conveyers, lighting, and other water/wastewater related equipment, instrumentation, etc., • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and performs detailed maintenance and repair work on water/wastewater pumps and/or booster stations and auxiliary equipment., • Develops, maintains, and checks for accuracy comprehensive electrical drawings and systems of water/wastewater related equipment, instrumentation, etc., • Reviews plans and specifications for plant expansions and/or modifications to existing electrical equipment; assists engineers with development of same., • Provides technical support and consults with employees on difficult repairs., • Develops and implements maintenance programs, schedules work, and instructs employees., • Conducts daily, weekly, or periodic rounds to inspect treatment facilities and/or stations for proper operation and maintenance., • Trains and assists Electricians to perform work safely and efficiently., • Serves as crew leader to assigned personnel., • Gathers information on repair/replacement parts and equipment, and supplies pricing and ordering information to supervisor., • Coordinates and works with outside contractors. Education and Experience: Associate’s Degree in Electronics, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field and five (5) years of experience in motor controls, electronics, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Qualifications: Possession of a valid State of Georgia driver’s license (Class C) and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). Possession of a valid State of Georgia Class II (Unrestricted) Electrical License preferred. Possession of Confined Space Entry. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code., • Knowledge of the methods, materials, standard practices, and tools used in the maintenance and repair of a variety of electrical equipment, electrical controls, and wiring used in water/wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations., • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment, including circuitry, telemetry, and engineering principles, motor controls, and machine tolerance., • Knowledge of electrical testing equipment., • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair., • Skill in electrical work, pipe bending, and wire installation., • Skill in drafting and drawing., • Skill in communication and coordination., • Skill in using small power tools, hand tools, and electrical testing equipment such as volt meters, amp meters, and meggers., • Ability to understand written and oral instructions., • Ability to work independently and with other employees., • Ability to diagnose operational/mechanical difficulties on a wide variety of water/wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations., • Ability to develop, maintain, read, analyze, and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and blueprints., • Ability to make sound, independent decisions and to recognize their impact on the whole WSA., • Ability to establish priorities with appropriate attention, details, and the ability to think through and analyze a problem resulting in the best possible solution. The work is very heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium., • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized., • Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet., • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine., • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips., • Fingering: picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling., • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm., • Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand., • Hearing: sufficient to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction; ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound., • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees., • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles., • Mental Acuity: sufficient to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes., • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion., • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward., • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction., • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers, • Standing: particularly for sustained periods of time., • Talking: sufficient to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly., • Visual Acuity: sufficient to observe violations of codes, to effectively operate standard office equipment; ability to read and write reports, correspondence, instructions, drawings, etc.; and to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment, by both day and night. The employee will be exposed to the following conditions in the work environment: work near moving mechanical parts; outdoor weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The work is often performed on rough ground and slippery surfaces in and around water. Protective devices such as masks, self-contained breathing apparatus, goggles, gloves, hearing protectors, helmets, and other protective equipment or clothing is sometimes required. The employee may work in conditions with direct contact with raw sewage/water and sewage/water sludge. The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate to loud. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with every other Friday off. Position requires individual to be on-call weekly.
