Job Description:\n\nSECURITY DISPATCHER Experienced Dispatch & Communications Professionals Company: Blackwater Public SafetyLocation: Azusa, CaliforniaEmployment Type: Full-TimeDepartment: Operations / Communications Center POSITION OVERVIEW Blackwater Public Safety is seeking an experienced and highly dependable Security Dispatcher to join our Operations and Communications Center. The Security Dispatcher serves as the central communications point between Blackwater Public Safety's field personnel, supervisors, clients, residents, law enforcement, fire/EMS, and other emergency service providers. This is a fast-paced communications and operations position requiring the ability to monitor multiple systems, answer incoming calls, communicate over radio, dispatch field personnel, document incidents, monitor officer activity, and make sound decisions—often while handling multiple events simultaneously. THIS IS NOT AN ENTRY-LEVEL SECURITY POSITION. IMPORTANT: These are mandatory pre-screening questions. This position requires prior professional dispatch, communications, or high-volume call center experience. Blackwater Public Safety is strongly seeking applicants with previous professional dispatch, public safety communications, security dispatch, alarm monitoring, logistics dispatch, transportation dispatch, or high-volume call center experience. Candidates whose experience consists primarily of unarmed or armed security patrol without prior dispatch or high-volume communications experience may not be considered for this position. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. DISPATCH & COMMUNICATIONSDispatch security officers to routine, priority, and emergency calls for service.Monitor radio communications and maintain professional radio discipline.Track officer status, availability, and locations throughout the shift.Coordinate responses between field personnel and supervisors.Prioritize calls based on urgency, officer availability, and operational requirements.Relay information accurately, clearly, and efficiently.Maintain continuous communication during active incidents.Recognize when incidents require escalation to a supervisor or emergency services. 2. INCOMING CALLS & CUSTOMER SERVICEAnswer incoming emergency and non-emergency telephone calls.Determine the nature and urgency of each call.Obtain accurate information from callers.Communicate professionally with residents, property managers, clients, officers, vendors, and members of the public.Handle difficult, upset, or demanding callers while maintaining professionalism.Determine the appropriate response and communicate information to the appropriate personnel.Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information. 3. MONITORING & SURVEILLANCEMonitor CCTV and surveillance systems.Monitor alarm notifications and security alerts.Monitor access control systems and other security platforms.Monitor GPS and vehicle tracking systems.Monitor officer activity and required patrol activity.Identify suspicious, unusual, or potentially hazardous activity.Initiate appropriate response procedures when an incident is identified. 4. EMERGENCY RESPONSE COORDINATIONReceive and process emergency calls and security alerts.Dispatch officers to emergency situations.Contact law enforcement, fire, EMS, or other emergency services when appropriate.Provide responding personnel with accurate and relevant information.Maintain communication during active incidents.Follow established emergency response procedures.Immediately notify supervisors of significant incidents. 5. INCIDENT REPORTING & DOCUMENTATIONCreate accurate, detailed, and timely incident reports.Maintain dispatch logs and communication records.Document officer activity and significant events.Record calls for service, dispatches, cancellations, and responses.Document emergency responses and notifications.Ensure all required information is accurately entered into company systems.Maintain professional documentation suitable for review by management and clients. 6. OFFICER TRACKING & ACCOUNTABILITYMonitor officer locations and activity.Track officer check-ins and status changes.Identify missed check-ins, communication issues, or unusual activity.Notify supervisors of officer accountability concerns.Assist management in maintaining operational coverage.Document officer call-offs, late arrivals, early departures, and shift coverage issues. 7. STAFFING & SHIFT COVERAGEAssist with identifying staffing shortages.Receive and document officer call-offs.Contact available personnel regarding open shifts when directed.Assist supervisors with emergency staffing coverage.Communicate staffing issues to the appropriate management personnel.Maintain accurate records regarding shift coverage. 8. TECHNOLOGY & COMPUTER OPERATIONS The Security Dispatcher will be expected to operate multiple computer systems simultaneously, including security, dispatch, communications, scheduling, reporting, and surveillance platforms. Candidates with substantial comparable experience may be considered at management's discretion. Important: Security guard experience alone does not satisfy the preferred dispatch experience requirement. This position requires experience communicating with multiple individuals, processing information quickly, documenting activity, using computer systems, and maintaining composure in a high-volume environment. TYPING & COMPUTER SKILLS Because dispatchers are required to document information while simultaneously communicating with callers and field personnel, candidates must demonstrate adequate typing and computer proficiency. Candidates should be capable of:Typing accurately while communicating over the telephone or radio.Entering information into dispatch/reporting systems.Navigating multiple computer programs simultaneously.Reading and responding to emails.Searching databases and retrieving information.Accurately documenting names, addresses, vehicle information, incident details, and other critical information. A typing and computer skills assessment may be administered during the hiring process. A minimum typing speed of approximately 40–45 WPM with acceptable accuracy is preferred. MULTITASKING & DISPATCH ASSESSMENT Because of the nature of this position, selected candidates may be required to complete a practical assessment before receiving a final employment offer. The assessment may include:Answering a simulated incoming call.Obtaining and documenting critical information.Prioritizing multiple calls for service.Dispatching an officer to a simulated incident.Monitoring radio traffic.Entering information into a computer system.Creating a basic incident report.Responding to changing circumstances during a simulated emergency.Demonstrating professional radio and telephone communication. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy. SCHEDULE & AVAILABILITY Security operations occur 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Schedule availability will be discussed during the interview process. WORK ENVIRONMENT The Security Dispatcher works primarily within a professional communications/operations center. The position requires extended periods of sitting and continuous use of computers, telephones, radios, surveillance systems, and other communications equipment. The dispatcher may be required to:Monitor multiple computer screens.Answer multiple calls.Communicate with multiple officers simultaneously.Monitor radio traffic.Monitor surveillance systems.Enter information into computer systems.Make rapid decisions.Handle stressful or emotionally charged situations.
