Mid-Level Embedded Software Engineer \n \n We are looking for a Mid-Level Embedded Software Engineer to join a collaborative engineering team developing innovative embedded and connected products. This is an opportunity to work across the embedded software lifecycle, from firmware development and microcontroller programming through hardware integration, debugging, testing, optimization, and product delivery. \n \n The ideal candidate will have approximately 5–10 years of experience in embedded systems design, development, and debugging, with strong hands-on experience developing software for microcontroller-based systems. You should be comfortable working at the intersection of hardware and software and enjoy troubleshooting complex issues that require understanding both sides of an embedded system. \n \n This role is well suited to an experienced embedded engineer who enjoys working closely with hardware and electrical engineers, solving challenging technical problems, and seeing their work progress from early development through real-world product deployment. \n \n What You’ll Do \n\n • Design, develop, test, debug, and optimize embedded firmware for microcontroller-based systems.\n, • Develop embedded software primarily in C/C++ for connected, low-power, and resource-constrained devices.\n, • Work across different embedded architectures, including bare-metal and RTOS-based systems.\n, • Develop and integrate firmware for wireless and connected products.\n, • Work with communication technologies and embedded interfaces such as I²C, SPI, GPIO, ADC, CAN, UART, and other hardware interfaces.\n, • Develop software for battery-powered and power-constrained products, considering performance, reliability, and power consumption.\n, • Work closely with hardware and electrical engineers throughout product development.\n, • Read and interpret schematics, datasheets, component specifications, and hardware documentation.\n, • Perform hands-on troubleshooting of embedded hardware and software issues.\n, • Diagnose system-level problems involving firmware, microcontrollers, peripherals, sensors, communication interfaces, and other electronic components.\n, • Use debugging and test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, JTAG/SWD debuggers, and other laboratory equipment.\n, • Integrate and debug firmware with prototype and production hardware.\n, • Participate in firmware verification, testing, validation, and system-level troubleshooting.\n, • Analyze performance, reliability, timing, memory usage, and other embedded system characteristics.\n, • Contribute to software architecture, technical requirements, design decisions, and engineering documentation.\n, • Collaborate with software, hardware, electrical, mechanical, systems, manufacturing, and other engineering teams.\n, • Support products through development, integration, testing, and transition into production.\n, • Help identify root causes of complex technical issues and develop practical solutions.\n\n \n What You’ll Bring \n\n • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.\n, • Approximately 5–10 years of professional experience in embedded systems, firmware development, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent depth of hands-on experience.\n, • Strong programming experience in embedded C/C++.\n, • Experience developing and debugging firmware for microcontrollers and embedded systems.\n, • Experience with ARM-based microcontrollers, such as STM32, NXP, Silicon Labs, or similar platforms.\n, • Experience with embedded peripherals, communication interfaces, and hardware/software integration.\n, • Experience with bare-metal and/or RTOS-based embedded development.\n, • Strong understanding of embedded system architecture and microcontroller operation.\n, • Hands-on experience troubleshooting embedded hardware and software issues.\n, • Ability to use laboratory and debugging equipment to diagnose problems at the hardware and firmware level.\n, • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, datasheets, timing diagrams, and hardware specifications.\n, • Experience working directly with hardware or electrical engineers during product development and debugging.\n, • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues methodically.\n, • Ability to understand and debug problems that cross the boundary between hardware and software.\n, • Strong written and verbal communication skills.\n, • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional engineering environment.\n\n \n Experience That Would Be Valuable \n\n • Experience with Bluetooth/BLE and connected or IoT products.\n, • Experience with Wi-Fi, Zigbee, cellular, or other wireless technologies.\n, • Experience developing software for low-power or battery-operated products.\n, • Experience with RTOS environments such as FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or similar.\n, • Experience with microcontrollers from STM32, NXP, Silicon Labs, Nordic, Microchip, TI, or similar manufacturers.\n, • Experience with platforms such as AVR, PIC, DSPs, or other embedded architectures.\n, • Experience with Embedded Linux is beneficial but is not a primary requirement for this position.\n, • Experience with Silicon Labs devices, BG22E, or Simplicity Studio.\n, • Experience with JTAG/SWD, GDB, or other embedded debugging environments.\n, • Experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, electronic test equipment, and other laboratory instrumentation.\n, • Understanding of power management, thermal considerations, timing, memory constraints, and system performance.\n, • Experience integrating sensors, peripherals, communication modules, or other electronic components.\n, • Experience taking products from prototype development through validation and production.\n, • Experience defining, documenting, or refining technical requirements.\n, • Experience working directly with customers, clients, or cross-functional stakeholders.\n, • U.S. Citizenship.\n\n \n Why Join? \n\n • Work on real-world embedded and connected products from concept through development and production.\n, • Work closely with experienced engineers across embedded software, hardware, electrical, mechanical, systems, and other disciplines.\n, • Gain broad exposure to both firmware development and hands-on hardware integration.\n, • Take ownership of technically challenging problems and have a visible impact on the final product.\n, • Work in an environment that encourages collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.\n, • Opportunities for professional development, training, and career growth.\n, • Competitive compensation and benefits based on experience and expertise.\n, • 9/80 work schedule with an on-site working environment.\n, • Join a team that values engineering excellence, creativity, practical problem-solving, and collaboration.\n\n \n Position Details \n Title: Mid-Level Embedded Software Engineer \n Location: Long Island, NY \n Schedule: Full-time, on-site; 9/80 schedule \n Employment Type: Contract hire or
