Job Description Job Title: Dock Hand - New Smyrna Marina Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time | Flexible Schedule Classification: Non-Exempt Location: New Smyrna Beach, Florida JOB DESCRIPTION Summary New Smyrna Marina is seeking a friendly, dependable Dock Hand to support daily marina operations and ensure an exceptional guest experience. This position is hands-on, physical, and highly customer-facing, requiring strong communication skills, teamwork, and a positive, service-driven attitude. The Dock Hand plays a key role in maintaining smooth marina operations and representing New Smyrna Marina with professionalism. Key Responsibilities • Greet boaters and provide outstanding customer service to slip holders and transient guests., • Assist with vessel docking and undocking, including proper line handling and safe boarding support., • Support the forklift operator with vessel movements, staging, washing, and fueling., • Operate fuel pumps safely and accurately; complete fuel sales transactions., • Wash boats and maintain clean, organized docks, restrooms, walkways, and common areas., • Perform daily operational tasks, including opening/closing duties, restocking supplies, and reporting maintenance needs., • Monitor marina grounds for potential safety hazards and address or escalate concerns promptly., • Work independently and collaboratively to ensure efficient marina operations., • Ability to work full-time or part-time with a flexible schedule, including weekends and some holidays., • Comfortable working outdoors in heat, sun, rain, and changing weather conditions., • Ability to stand for long periods and lift/carry 40 lbs or more., • Basic understanding of boat handling, docking procedures, marine lines/knots, and general marine safety., • Comfortable working around boats, docks, forklifts, and marine equipment., • Strong communication and customer service skills; able to interact with a diverse clientele., • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team., • Must be at least 18 years old., • Valid driver’s license required. Preferred Qualifications • Previous experience as a dock hand, marina assistant, or in a boating-related environment., • Boating experience, including confidently driving or handling vessels in various conditions., • Familiarity with marine fueling procedures and maritime safety practices., • Knowledge of common marine knots and line-handling techniques., • Experience supporting boat movements and assisting forklift operations. Work Environment Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature, reaching over 100 degrees Fahrenheit at times. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend at the waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time. The employee is frequently required to walk, climb, or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb into and out of the boats using stairs. The employee must frequently be able to lift 50 pounds, work 10-hour days with most of the time being on their feet, and work overtime, whether planned or unplanned.
