Immediate opening for a CNC Operator (2nd Shift) in Long Beach, CA who possesses: • 1+ year of experience operating a CNC mill; 5-axis and FANUC controls experience preferred, • Experience working with large parts and hard metals, • Experience using measurement tools such as micrometers and calipers FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a CNC Operator to support aerospace structural component manufacturing in a team-oriented production environment. This temp-to-hire role supports the simultaneous operation of multiple 3-axis and 5-axis CNC milling work centers, large part handling, setup support, part verification, deburring, documentation, machine maintenance, and production flow. The ideal candidate will have CNC mill operation experience, hands-on machining knowledge, experience with hard metals, measurement tool experience, and the ability to support quality standards in an aerospace manufacturing environment. The selected candidate will be responsible for: • Supporting the simultaneous operation of multiple 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machine and milling work centers, • Ensuring milling cycles proceed continuously to support aluminum, titanium, Inconel, or steel cutting, • Assisting with setup of raw material, • Removing finished machined product to maximize daily CNC machine and milling work center production hours, • Loading large parts into machines as needed, • Using internal documentation to verify production methods are followed, • Performing self-checks to ensure setup accuracy, • Supporting quality of parts in accordance with AS9100 standards, • Verifying cutter assembly integrity and tool life through physical review and measurement, • Using micrometers and calipers to support cutter and part verification, • Changing out cutters when necessary, • Performing basic completed machined part geometry verification with applicable measurement instruments, • Ensuring production parts conform to engineering requirements, • Performing basic edge break and deburring of parts, • Supporting subsequent machining operations and safe handling for the next operation sequence, • Operating forklift and overhead cranes for work holding movement and placement as needed, • Keeping CNC machines and work centers clean and organized using 6S methods, • Reporting opportunities for continuous improvement during manufacturing production runs, • Using internal job travelers and routers to ensure manufacturing methods are kept up to date, • Logging usage electronically in the ERP system, • Maintaining basic CNC work center function by checking coolant levels, cleaning filters, and emptying chip bins as needed, • Supporting machine maintenance activities such as oil level or coolant checks, • Communicating with team members, supervisors, and production staff as needed, • Performing other duties as assigned to support production requirements The selected candidate will also possess: • 1+ year of experience operating a CNC mill required, • 5-axis CNC mill experience preferred, • FANUC controls experience preferred, • Experience working with large parts, including 30" x 30" x 30" envelope and above, preferred, • Experience working with hard metals required, • Experience with aluminum, titanium, Inconel, or steel preferred, • Experience using micrometers and calipers required, • Ability to identify and use common measurement tools required, • Ability to perform basic shop math required, • Experience supporting CNC machine maintenance, including oil levels or coolant, preferred, • Experience in metal manufacturing required, • Aerospace manufacturing experience preferred, • AS9100, ISO, or GMP experience preferred, • Experience with job travelers, routers, internal documentation, or ERP systems preferred, • Experience operating multiple machines at the same time preferred, • Ability to support setup, machine operation, deburring, cleaning, and documentation tasks, • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen prior to starting, • Ability to work onsite in Long Beach, CA, • Ability to work 2nd shift, Monday through Friday from 3:30 PM to 12:00 AM, • Ability to work required overtime on Fridays or Saturdays as needed, • Ability to support a temp-to-hire opportunity Physical Requirements: • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and move throughout manufacturing and machine shop areas during the shift, • Ability to load, unload, and handle large parts and raw materials as needed, • Ability to operate or work around CNC machines, milling work centers, forklifts, overhead cranes, tooling, work holding, and related manufacturing equipment, • Ability to use micrometers, calipers, and other measurement tools for part and cutter verification, • Ability to perform repetitive movements related to machine operation, loading, unloading, deburring, cleaning, measuring, and documentation, • Ability to visually inspect parts, tools, cutters, documentation, and machine conditions, • Ability to maintain coolant levels, clean filters, empty chip bins, and support basic machine maintenance tasks, • Ability to work around aluminum, titanium, Inconel, steel, chips, coolant, machinery, and production materials, • Ability to follow safety, quality, AS9100, and shop procedures, • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment as needed Salary Range: $19 to $29/hour More information can be found at www.defensesearchusa.com. \nCompany Description Defense Search is a specialized recruiting and staffing firm dedicated exclusively to the defense & aerospace industry.
