This position leads major aspects of venue security, public safety, access control, patrol, emergency readiness, training, quality assurance, and compliance. They act as an Incident Commander during emergencies and maintain 24/7 readiness and availability. What You Will Do: • Lead, coach, and develop Supervisors assigned to shift operations; ensure consistency, accountability, and adherence to organizational standards., • Oversee day-to-day field operations including patrol, response, access control, Security Operations Center (SOC), dispatch, driveway/dock operations, security technology use, and team staffing and scheduling., • Ensure operational readiness: posts staffed, equipment functional, logs accurate, communications effective, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) followed consistently., • Serve as primary Incident Commander for significant security, safety, or emergency events; provide direction, resource deployment, and post-incident coordination., • Review and approve security staffing plans for events; partner with Event Management, Event Operations, and other departments to support major exhibit hall activations, VIP visits, and large crowd movements., • Monitor performance metrics including response times, staffing coverage, documentation accuracy, safety compliance, and other key indicators., • Oversee incident reporting accuracy, timeliness, classification, and routing., • Primary responsibility for labor financial monitoring and performance and owns and collaborates on department financial planning., • Perform, lead, document, and report on all manners of security-relevant investigations., • Support major emergency management functions including drills, tabletop exercises, evacuation planning, and post-event after-action reviews., • Ensure supervisors enforce compliance with policies, procedures, and labor agreements., • Assist the Director of Public Safety with strategic planning, resource allocation, technology initiatives, and interdepartmental coordination., • Leads the development and implementation of program governance including policies, standard operating procedures, post orders, plans, and documentation templates., • Leads the internal training program including onboarding, refresher training, supervisor development, dispatch/console qualification, and scenario-based drills., • Direct the Quality Assurance program: inspections, documentation audits, radio checks, technology utilization reviews, and post audits., • Coordinate scheduling governance including rules, standards, relief deployment, rotation cycles, skill-based assignment, and alignment with collective bargaining agreements., • Serve as project manager for major administrative or technical initiatives, including Video Management System standards, access control enhancements, safety equipment upgrades, and documentation system improvements., • Oversee departmental metrics including QA findings, training compliance rates, corrective action closeouts, AAR follow-up, and operational readiness dashboards., • Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with all manner of internal and external stakeholders, including IT, HR, Event Management, Event Operations, police personnel, fire personnel, and 3rd party vendors and contractors., • Bachelor's degree, preferred; equivalent experience in-lieu of degree will be considered. Must have a minimum of ten years related security experience including three years of direct management or supervisory experience. Previous experience in large public assembly facilities is highly desirable., • Highly desirable:, • Active and participatory membership in security and venue relevant professional organizations including ASIS, IAVM, and InfraGard, • CPR/AED and First Aid Certified, • ICS/NIMS coursework (e.g. ICS 100, 200, 700, 800), • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret all manner of documentation, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals., • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, managers, clients, customers, and the general public., • Bilingual/multilingual is desired but not required., • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations., • Computer literate with working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing programs, security-related software desirable., • Must possess above average written and verbal skills. Strong security background and customer service skills. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to diplomatically and tactfully resolve difficult and sensitive situations., • Availability to work day, evening, and graveyard shifts including weekends and holidays., • While performing the duties of this job, the Manager of Public Safety is regularly required to be mobile between the Security Base Station and the Supervisors office location. Throughout the day the Manager of Public Safety is required to be mobile around the facility to monitor employee assignments, attend briefings and line-ups, and respond to both emergency and non-emergency situations., • The office for the Manager of Public Safety is located adjacent to the security base near the docks on the backside of the Convention Center. Frequent computer use at a workstation. Frequent interaction with employees via email, telephone, delivery correspondence, and/or face-to-face., • During event activity, this position will traverse on different show floors, which include lobby areas, front driveway, and security base, guest services office, loading docks, exhibit halls, mezzanine level, and upper-level meeting rooms., • While on the show floor, employees may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and equipment, such as forklifts and electric carts, as well as loud noises originating from the use of individual and multiple quantities of mechanical equipment., • The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, exhaust fumes, airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock for both indoor and outdoor environments., • The outside work environment includes exposure to uneven street pavement and sidewalks and high levels of pedestrian and vehicular traffic., • This position requires frequent interaction with guests, and the public to include government officials, law enforcement agencies, and VIPs in and out of the facility.
