Job Description This role supports a mission‑driven, nonprofit public media organization that serves millions across the region through television, radio, and digital platforms. Our facilities support 24/7 operations, including broadcast studios, production spaces, offices, and secure technical environments. The Role The Facilities Manager owns the day‑to‑day health of our buildings and systems. This role blends technical problem‑solving, vendor coordination, project management, and people leadership. You’ll translate building and system issues into clear plans of action, keep facilities operational and compliant, and lead a small facilities/services team in a fast‑paced, high‑availability environment. This is a highly visible, onsite role with strong cross‑functional partnerships across technology, content, finance, and security. Key ResponsibilitiesFacilities Operations & Issue Translation (Approx. 40%) • Serve as the primary owner for facilities and building systems issues from intake through resolution., • Diagnose issues at a functional level and translate symptoms into clear, vendor‑ready scopes of work., • Coordinate and communicate with electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, security vendors, and other trades., • Lead troubleshooting efforts involving multiple systems or vendors., • Ensure facilities, life‑safety, and security systems are operational, compliant, and well maintained.Project & Work Management (Approx. 25%), • Plan and manage small‑to‑medium facilities projects, including repairs, upgrades, space changes, and lifecycle replacements., • Develop scopes, timelines, cost estimates, sequencing, and risk awareness., • Coordinate work to minimize disruption to content production and 24/7 operations., • Track progress and follow work through completion., • Maintain documentation, drawings, service records, and institutional knowledge.Vendor, Contract & Security Oversight (Approx. 15%), • Manage day‑to‑day relationships with vendors and contractors., • Oversee contracted security services in partnership with internal security leadership., • Ensure work aligns with scope, safety standards, security expectations, and quality requirements., • Review completed work, support invoice review, and assist with contract administration.Team Leadership & Supervision (Approx. 20–25%), • Lead and support a small, mixed‑skill facilities and services team., • Set priorities, assign work, and balance urgent, important, and planned tasks., • Coach, mentor, and develop direct reports; provide feedback and performance support., • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and service‑oriented team culture.Communication, Coordination & Risk Management (Ongoing), • Act as a primary point of contact for facilities and security matters., • Communicate clearly about status, timelines, impacts, and trade‑offs in plain language., • Partner cross‑functionally on shared infrastructure, space planning, and operational needs., • Support emergency response, incident resolution, and after‑action follow‑up., • Contribute to organizational risk assessment related to life safety, security, and staff wellbeing.What We’re Looking For, • Experience managing facilities operations in complex, mission‑critical environments (broadcast, media, healthcare, higher education, or similar preferred)., • Strong understanding of building systems, life‑safety, and vendor‑managed services., • Ability to translate technical issues into clear plans and scopes of work., • Experience managing vendors, contracts, and service providers., • Prior people leadership or team‑lead experience., • Calm, solutions‑oriented approach in high‑availability or time‑sensitive environments., • Clear communicator who can work comfortably with both technical and non‑technical partners.Working Conditions, • Work occurs in offices, studios, mechanical spaces, rooftops, grounds, and occasional remote sites., • Physical activity required, including lifting up to 50 lbs and carrying up to 30 lbs., • This is an onsite role requiring regular presence at Portland facilities. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $42.00 - $49.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
