Thank you Listed below is the job description: STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Responsible for planning, organizing, contracting, marketing, directing, and staffing of Medical Surgical and Surgical Services. Will oversee manpower, materials, technical information and financial resources to produce quality services to physicians, and to care for patients and their families. Represents the hospital and Medical Surgical and Surgical Service in appropriate activities, plans and markets medical surgical and surgical programs, maintains active communication/interfaces with interdepartmental managers, and surgical staff. Provides a mechanism for ensuring quality care and med/surg and surgical staff competency. QUALIFICATIONS A current and valid California R.N. license, BSN preferred. BCLS and ACLS required. Must have a minimum combined experience of 3 years clinical nursing experience in the Medical Surgical Services with progressive management experience and a minimum of 1 year experience in a Surgical Services (Peri-operative) arena. ECT and Special Procedures experience preferred. A minimum of 3-years experience in ECT and OR recovery. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Occasional sitting and reaching. Constant walking and standing. Frequent bending. Frequent lifting up to 30 pounds. Frequent pulling and pushing up to 50 pounds. Constant color and depth perception. Constant exposure to stressful situations. Constant public or patient contact. WORKING CONDITIONS Frequent exposure to noise. Frequent exposure to dirt, dust, smoke, fumes. Frequent exposure to cold and heat. Frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals and general cleaning chemicals. Frequent working with moving machinery. MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (All duties listed below are essential to the job.) • Management Accountabilities Manager’s conduct conforms to the Management Principles, Mission, Vision, Values, and Code of Conduct of College Hospital. Demonstrates the ability to forecast annual budgets for staffing and departmental needs; maintains department monthly expenditures; takes appropriate action to adjust accounts during the budgeted year, i.e. overages. Demonstrates the ability to keep up with the demands of the position: delegates responsibilities appropriately. Demonstrates the ability to make sound judgments by identifying, assessing, and communicating appropriately. Demonstrates the ability to effect, implement and maintain changes. Demonstrates an understanding of the Hospital’s Fire/Disaster Safety Manual by knowing personal as well as departmental role in the case of a code; has oriented staff to such. Functions with an awareness of patient safety issues and applies basic principles of safety as identified within the facility. Ensures that staff follows the occurrence reporting policy and procedure in reporting any potential safety issues. *Job Specific Accountabilities Effectively collects and analyzes data to determine staffing patterns and overall Medical Surgical and Surgical Services Nursing staffing plans. Makes timely nursing rounds to assess the quality of patient care and to identify process problems. Effectively investigates issues, concerns and patient complaints concerning Nursing and/or departmental issues. Takes appropriate action. Assesses cost control measures for appropriateness and effectiveness. Oversees operational budget for expenditures based upon patient volume. Maintains staffing productivity levels. Prepares reports and records as necessary to assist in the provision of community of patient care or as required by various Federal, State, community or hospital agencies. Effectively maintains compliance with nursing care standards, hospital policies and procedures, and regulatory agency requirements. Reviews departmental performance as measured against standards of the JCAHO as well as those established by the governing board. (Title 22, COPs, Patient Rights, etc). Assures safety of all staff and patients through continuous monitoring of all departments for compliance with safety programs, policies and procedure as appropriate. Performs technical aspects of patient care according to established policies and procedures, utilizes proper techniques, and adapts techniques to needs of individual patients. Demonstrates knowledge of legal aspects of nursing. Strictly follows the principles of asepsis, infection and Standard Precautions, demonstrates thorough knowledge of sterile technique for preparation and completion of surgical procedure. Demonstrates the ability to perform in an accurate and precise manner in crisis and emergency situations when time is critical. Demonstrates knowledge of marketing techniques. Plans time with physicians to discuss patient issues. Effectively serves on committees including, but not limited to: Department Managers, Safety, Infection Control, Med/Surg, and Quality Management. Oversees orientation, in-service training and continuing education of all staff in the medical and surgical services.
