Job Description Direct Support Professional (DSP) Job Qualifications High school Diploma or GED. 18 years of age or older. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written. Show a strong commitment to support, encourage and improve the quality of life for adults with developmental disabilities. In accordance with Title 22, Division 6, Chapter 3, Section 82065 (g); All personnel shall be in good health, and shall be physically, mentally, and occupationally capable of performing assigned tasks. The DSP staff will have the ability to pass a criminal record clearance prior to presence in the facility. Also ability to pass a physical exam and drug test. The DSP staff shall have a current and valid drivers license. Job Description Provides direct personal care, support and supervision in a home. Promotes residents well being and satisfaction through support with activities of daily living. Promotes independence, identifies and resolves problems and barriers; documents progress and observations; and provides feedback to circle of support. Communicate well with other staff to ensure residents needs are met. Essential Responsibilities 1. Supports people in activities of daily living, promote independence, self-care, and assist with their decision-making daily routines. Assist with people taking their centrally stored medications. Following care home protocols, licensing regulation and guidelines for both person and employee safety., 2. Follow safety guidelines in home, and universal precautions when providing care to a resident. 3.Follow the schedule of duties for a DSP, as well as the individual plan of care for each resident including their scheduled activities. Uses the individual plan of care to assist with problem resolution. 4. Function as a team, assisting coworkers as the need arises., 5. Maintain line of sight supervision for assigned residents in a 1:4 or as determined by the individual., 6. Monitoring resident activity, functional status, psychosocial status, taking action as required to promote resident's well being, enhancing their personal growth, and development. Report status change immediately to Administrator. 7.Assist people with physical and personal supports which may include but are not limited to medical/assistive device operation, care and upkeep; hygiene, grooming, toileting, changing disposable undergarments and genital care. 8. Assists with appropriate life skills, transportation and mobility training. Transporting residents to community outings, pharmacy, MD appointments., 9. Uses effective, sensitive communication to support and build trust. Uses modes of communication appropriate to individual needs and language appropriate to ensure understanding., 10. Documents progress, observations, and special incidents., 11. Maintains and respects standards of confidentiality, privacy, and ethical practices., 12. Responsible for working safely and promoting safe work practices. Participates in safety training, drills, and inspections., 13. Is familiar with and performs duties with the guidelines of Title 17, Title 22, and other regulatory state statues agencies, and their policies and procedures. Shows respect and sensitivity for cultural differences, and promotes a harassment-free work place., 14. Maintains a positive, professional image while representing the care home. Communicates and deals effectively with peers and management., 15. Act immediately on any resident crisis, following protocol and basic first aid training., 16. In the event all assigned duties cannot be completed, ask for assistance and report to the Administrator., 17. Any other appropriate and relevant duties as assigned., 18. Food preparation; Prepare healthy, tasty meals/snacks according to menu. Grocery shopping for the home may be required., 19. Housekeeping services for residents; This includes cleaning all common areas, cleaning restrooms, cleaning and/or assisting residents to clean their bedrooms. Kitchen clean up and maintenance. Keeping refridgerator clean, throwing away all expired items. Any other assignment related to maintaining the home clean, safe, and in good repair., 20. Laundry duties include assisting residents/and or doing their laundry. Doing general laundry for care home. Training and Certifications As appropriate to the assigned tasks, required training provided includes but is not limited to: CPR and First Aid training Infection Prevention and Standard Precautions Residents Rights Mandated Reporting/Adult and Elder Abuse training Resident Care and Supervision Emergency Procedures Assisting with self-administration medication Seizure Disorders Community Safety Illness and Injury Prevention Special Incident Reporting DSP year 1 training DSP year 2 training Minimum 8 hours of continuing education training yearly Inservices Safe Driving Individual Plans (IPP) implementation Food Prep/Safety Schedule Monday-Friday May include 1 or 2 weekdays from 1:30pm-8pm Primarily Weekends; Saturday and Sunday varying 8-12 hour shifts between 0830am-8:30pm.
