Job Description Johnson Service Group has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Worker 1 in San Jose, CA. This is a short-term 6-month contract, full-time, and wanting 2 years of experience and a high school diploma/GED. Maintenance Worker I- $32.43/hr Job Title: Maintenance Worker I Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the entry-level class in the Maintenance Worker series. Employees perform routine maintenance tasks under immediate supervision while learning the full range of responsibilities. Advancement to Maintenance Worker II is based on demonstrated proficiency and is at management’s discretion. Supervision Received: Receives immediate supervision. Employees work in close proximity to their supervisor and follow detailed instructions for routine tasks. Typical Duties: Construct, maintain, and repair flood protection and raw water facilities; perform minor concrete work, patch cracks, and remove rubble. Assist in trash and debris removal, including hazardous materials, ensuring proper disposal. Support loading of sediment and cleaning of ponds; count truckloads and complete documentation. Clear brush, prune vegetation, and assist with tree removals. Assist with preventive maintenance on pumps, valves, and other raw water facilities. Operate hand and power tools and light equipment safely. Perform traffic control, set up warning devices, and direct traffic around work sites. Inspect equipment, perform minor preventive maintenance, and transport equipment to/from job sites. Maintain electronic and paper records of work performed. Respond to public inquiries courteously and provide basic information. Construct and repair fences, remove blockages, and perform sediment removal activities. Perform earthwork, including grading, excavation, and placement of fill by hand or with small equipment. Qualifications: Knowledge of: Operational characteristics of maintenance hand and power equipment, tools, and standard safety practices. Basic methods and techniques of construction maintenance. Ability to: Learn construction and maintenance practices, procedures, and tools. Read basic maps, drawings, and specifications. Perform traffic control and preventive maintenance tasks. Operate maintenance tools and equipment safely. Communicate clearly and establish effective working relationships. Training and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of construction or field maintenance experience. License/Certificates: Valid California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. Ability to obtain a Class B driver’s license with tanker and air brake endorsements within six (6) months of hire. Working Conditions: Field and office environment; may include exposure to uneven terrain, inclement weather, and hazardous conditions. Physical labor including walking, standing, lifting, bending, stooping, and operating equipment for extended periods. Exposure to chemicals, biohazards, wildlife, and other field-related hazards.
