Job Description A privately held real estate investment, development, and management firm with a diverse portfolio of income-producing assets. As an owner-operator, we are deeply involved in the day-to-day and strategic oversight of our properties. Our investments span multifamily, commercial, student housing, and self-storage assets, and we partner with both in-house and third-party property managers to drive performance. We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate has a strong background in real estate accounting and is experienced in working with financials from 3rd party property management firms and creating internal financial statements for properties that we self-manage to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely reporting. Position Summary: The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the full accounting cycle across a portfolio of real estate assets. A key focus of the role includes reviewing, reconciling, and consolidating monthly financial packages received from third-party property management companies. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of property-level operations and reporting, and the ability to liaise effectively between internal stakeholders and external managers. Key Responsibilities: Core Accounting Duties: • Perform full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of owned real estate assets., • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP-compliant financial statements., • Maintain and reconcile general ledgers, journal entries, and bank accounts., • Review and analyze monthly financial reports submitted by third-party property management firms for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal reporting standards., • Reconcile management-provided financials to company accounting records, including balance sheet and income statement variances., • Ensure timely delivery and standardization of property management financial packages across different operators., • Coordinate with third-party managers to resolve discrepancies, clarify variances, and improve reporting processes., • Aggregate and consolidate property-level reports into portfolio-wide financial statements., • Validate and track property cash flows, rent rolls, operating expenses, and management fees submitted by external managers., • Collaborate with asset management on financial reporting variances and ad hoc requests, • Prepare and support audits, tax filings, lender compliance packages, and internal controls., • Assist with annual budgeting, reforecasting, and strategic planning processes., • Maintain fixed asset ledgers and depreciation schedules. Required: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field., • 4–6 years of accounting experience, with at least 2+ years in real estate (owner-operator environment strongly preferred)., • Experience working with third-party property managers and reviewing external financial reports., • Proficient in using property management software for all necessary financial and operational duties (Yardi, AppFolio, MRI, etc)., • Strong understanding of GAAP, real estate accounting principles, and property-level financials., • Advanced Excel skills; comfort with consolidating data from multiple sources., • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy is a must., • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
