Job DescriptionTitle: Art Instructor - Digital Arts Reports to: Program Supervisor or Lead Art Instructor Department: Art Center Program Location: All Art Center Sites FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Compensation: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour Program Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Some evening and evening work may be required. Supervisory Responsibility: None Position SummaryUnder supervision by Program Supervisor, the Art Instructor/Digital Arts will assist, guide and facilitate studio art practices to artists (adults with varying degrees of learning, behavioral, emotional, and intellectual disabilities) in order to provide professional development and integrating artists into the local art community as working professional Artists. This can include but is not limited to art instruction in the following art mediums; drawing, animation, video art, digital art, and 2D design. Art Instruction will occur in several media of artistic expression in conjunction with artists individual art goals (ISP). Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Implement individual artistic goals, referring to artist’s ISP. Ensure artists’ safety during operating hours of the Art Center, while on the premises, and out in the community. Assist artists in maintaining progress notes on a monthly basis and participate in meetings and other in-services as assigned. Ensure attendance recordings are accurate and complete. Provide supervision during artist’s arrival, departure, break and lunchtime., • Give instruction in the proper use of materials, care, and protection of artwork, production of saleable art, and help artists to become proficient in developing their individual voice and style as an artist through 2D and digital art techniques. Ensure the safe use of equipment, including basic safety measures to be used when working with various tools, machines, equipment and materials, safe lifting procedures, etc. Create any protocols needed for increased safety. Monitor artist throughout their entire art project. Assist and instruct artists on projects related to their ISP (Individual Service Plan)., • Set up/prepare equipment to be used on a daily basis and maintain equipment; ensure supplies are ordered and maintained. Ensure all art equipment is being properly used and maintained by artists and assigned studio area is maintained and clean. Organize artists’ portfolios by properly labeling and storing artwork in the appropriate areas., • Participate in staff meetings to identify and implement artistic, educational, psychological and social objectives for each artist. Take into account addressing the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse artists. Implement of services and supports in accordance with Lanterman Act and Person-Centered Thinking Practices., • Follow appropriate protocol and policies in assisting artists during any incidents or seizures. Employ NCI procedures as needed to assist artists who are exhibiting aggressive behavior. Adhere to ECF’s Illness and Injury Prevention Safety Program and follow ECF guidelines for reporting medical emergencies, suspected abuse or neglect and unusual incidents to case management staff and supervisory staff. Implement First Aid/CPR as necessary. Assist artists with personal hygiene needs including illness, and incidents of incontinence., • Be available to help promote the Art Centers during work hours for visitors and guests. This includes, but is not limited to informing the public of the Art Center mission and services when the public is touring Art Center studio, asking questions during events, or inquiring about how they can support the program. Support Art Center events and programs through distribution of materials and information to all interested parties., • Staff and supervise special exhibits featuring ECF artists’ work at various locations and times. Assist in organizing art shows and events which may include matting, framing, and installation and tear down of shows. Greet the public and assist artists’ with presenting and discussing their work with the public. Other Duties, • Comply with ECF’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Safety and Medical Emergency Procedures. Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment., • Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements., • Observe regular, on-site work hours. Regular and reliable attendance is required for this position. Experience: Six months in any combination of the following: studio work, teaching (including undergrad TA positions), work on public and private art projects, art installations, work in art museums, or any other directly related experience. Manage department budget to achieve monthly, quarterly and annual goals., • Identify program volunteer positions and assist with the identification, hiring and tracking of program volunteers; Ensure all assigned committees have appropriate staff leadership, commission statements and chart of works., • Creates member involvement opportunities on a year-round basis to support annual fundraising goals, including year round recruitment and committee involvement; Responsible for recruitment and retention of Community Support Campaign leadership., • Maintains commitment to safety through regularly scheduled safety inspections. Meets Association Aquatic standards regarding safety and risk management., • Responsible for marketing Aquatic programs to members and the community through events, initiatives and activities for members and the community., • Communicate program information, registration information, schedules, etc., effectively and consistently with branch management and membership staff., • Ensure swim lessons are being instructed using the YMCA of the USA swim lesson program; create and ensure there is a nurturing environment for swim lesson participants., • While on duty as a lifeguard, provides continuous, uninterrupted scanning of pool and aquatic area., • Reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required., • Follow and ensure Minimum Standards of Safety for Aquatic Activities 7.301 are being met. Understands and consistently enforces safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area., • Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code., • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed., • Plays an active role in continuing to identify ways to improve safety standards., • Maintains effective, positive relationships with members, participants and other staff., • Continuously monitors aquatic area for hazardous or unsafe conditions. Immediately reports all hazardous or unsafe conditions to management and takes appropriate action, • Uses problem solving skills to make quick decisions, instruct, evaluate, supervise, and recognize the potential for danger or injury., • Successfully completes and pass periodic aquatic safety assessments., • Sit for extended periods of time in an elevated chair. Must remain alert and focused on the entire zone of responsibility for extended periods of time, even under conditions of high heat and humidity, with no lapses in consciousness. Move safely to various locations, including entering and exiting an elevated chair, while scanning the zone of responsibility., • Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals. Must understand that significant background noise exists in all indoor and outdoor aquatic environments., • Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision., • Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue Communicate with others immediately when responding to an incident or an emergency. Must be able to communicate verbally, including projecting their voice across distances; communicate swiftly and clearly with emergency personnel over the telephone and or in person; and effectively give and receive directions., • Perform all rescue, resuscitation, and survival skills., • Act swiftly in an emergency and take action even when unsure whether a person is really in danger, • All other duties as assigned by your supervisor. Swim 250 yards of front crawl Swim 50 yards of each: Front crawl with the head up Breaststroke Breaststroke with the head up Elementary backstroke kick with hands on the chest Perform a feet-first surface-dive in 8 to 10 feet of water (if branch facility accommodates). Then swim underwater for 15 feet. Starting in the shallow end of the water, sprint for a distance of approximately 60 feet then perform an arm-over-arm surface dive in 8 to 10 feet (if branch facility accommodates). Pick up an object (dive ring) from the bottom of pool, surface and tread water for at least one minute with legs only, replace the object back to the bottom of the pool where it was found. Swim the remaining length to end of pool, and hoist yourself out of water. Immediately begin CPR on an adult manikin for 2 minutes, stand and listen to directions from instructor.
