Job Title: Grant Accountant Job Status: Full-time, exempt Job Location: Remote Job Summary: The primary function of the Grant Accountant is to support the mission and vision of Unbound Now by managing the financial aspects of grants received by Unbound Now, providing budgets for applications, ensuring compliance with grant requirements, and overseeing the preparation of financial reports and proper allocation and expenditure of grant funds. This role supervises Government Grant Managers and requires strong accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal stakeholders and external funding sources. Compensation: Annual salary Benefits: Unbound Now offers a generous benefits package, including health insurance for employees and families with premiums covered by the employer; employer-paid life insurance for employees; and the option to participate in Unbound Now's retirement plan (with 3% salary match after 90 days with a 1-year vesting period). Availability: Anticipated 40-45-hour work week, generally 8:30-5:30 CST Monday-Friday with a one-hour lunch break Working Conditions: Work is performed in a normal office environment or other professional environment. Work duties may, on rare occasions, be performed in an environment requiring exposure to weather extremes, fumes, odors, and noise. Job Responsibilities: • Review grant solicitations in coordination with Foundation Grant Writers, recommend funding requests, and provide budgets for grant applications in line with donor requirements, best practices, and internal funding needs, • Ensure that grant-eligible expenses are coded accordingly in Unbound Nows accounting software, • Prepare grant allocations, • Prepare grant invoices/financial reports, manage grant reporting and payment cycles, including the review, submission, and drawdowns or invoicing according to donor requirements and intervals, • Provide financial reports on grant spend-down for internal use to ensure that time-limited funds are spent by the deadline, • Support in the proper close-out of all grants, • Support all financial compliance related to grants, • Work in collaboration with Program leaders on all internal and government grant financial desk/site reviews, • Support and ensure that government grant application and financial report deadlines are met, • In coordination with the Finance Manager, review revenue recognition in Unbound Nows accounting software, • Stay informed of changes in grant guidelines, • Support the annual audit as it relates to grants, • Unbound Now is following best practices for grant management, including compliance with all funder requirements and a high level of accountability and transparency regarding the use of grant funds, • Grant funds available and used effectively in support of Unbound Nows mission, • Strong asks on foundation grant applications based on knowledge of unfunded budget line items and match requirements, • Well leveraged match when required on grants, • Proactive grant management and internal reporting that allows for timely identification of spend-down or other issues and facilitation of strategy/spending adjustment, • Clean and accurate grant accounting records that will attract future funding to increase support for Unbound Nows mission, building trust and confidence in Unbound Nows financial and grant management practices Reports to: Chief Administrative Officer Supervises: N/A Works with: Chief Program Officer, Grant Manager, Finance Manager, and other key staff regarding budgets and financial information for applications and financial reports; Development Team on restricted gifts and giving opportunities Education and Experience: • Bachelors degree in accounting or finance, • CPA strongly preferred, • Minimum of three years of experience managing financial aspects of government and foundation grants and contracts for a complex nonprofit with multiple funding sources and grant revenue of at least $6 million, including grant budget development, fund and grant accounting, compliance, and detailed financial reporting, • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and advanced knowledge of grant accounting principles, • Familiarity with the Uniform Guidance regulations and other policy requirements applicable to federal government grant awards, • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, • Mature Christian faith as evidenced by participation in a local Christian church, • Thorough commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Unbound Now, • Agree to take and pass all required background checks, • Provide three references (supervisor, professional, personal), • Detail-oriented, • Highly responsible, • Outstanding collaborator with others, internally and externally, • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload in response to dynamic contexts, • Responsive, solutions-focused, and service-oriented, • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, • Commitment to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information, • Abide by Unbound Now policies at all times, • Submit expense documentation properly and within required time frames per the company expense policy, and follow all Ramp Monthly Closeout Instructions and Process, • Submit travel reimbursements daily, adhering to all travel guidelines, • Submit time-sheet hours/grant allocations daily, adhering to grant guidelines (if applicable), • Must possess a valid drivers license and be able to operate a personal or company vehicle as needed for work-related travel, • Demands include sitting for long periods at a computer, repetitive hand motions from frequent keyboarding, • Demands frequently require close visual attention, • Demands frequently require prolonged mental concentration, • Demands frequent remote video calls
