POSITION SUMMARY The Area Manager (Nutrition) provides support to the School Nutrition Program (SNP) Area Coordinator by assisting with school-level support to the food service operation to ensure that Federal, State, and Local standards are being met, including but not limited to: Staff training and development, food preparation, customer service, sanitation and safety, recordkeeping, organization, and troubleshooting. Review all schools' meal management production records to ensure the accuracy of meals recorded and served and retain records on file for Federal/State audits. ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Assists in monitoring program compliance with federal, state, and district standards through site visits to review established guidelines for food preparation, meal service, service line set-up (presentation), food quality, sanitation, and safety procedures, food storage and inventory control, cash collections, and customer relations, • Conducts reviews of program operations to ensure that federal, state, and local procedures related to SNP (School Nutrition Program) are fully implemented for all nutrition programs as requested. To include but not limited to National School Lunch Program, Supper, Snack, and Summer Feeding, • Monitors and reviews school-level inventory and valuation reports for accuracy and cost controls, • Trains SNP managers and food assistants in program policies and procedures, • Provides classroom and hands-on training to nutrition staff related to the school nutrition operations, food preparation procedures, and safety regulations, including training in policies and procedures, • Assists SNP managers in providing nutrition education to the students and the school community., • Assists with planning and participation in nutrition marketing initiatives, • Provides technical assistance to cafeteria managers and their staff in all aspects of the child nutrition program, • Assists in the development, evaluation, and implementation of employee work schedules with cafeteria managers, • Assists SNP managers by ensuring that the process for maintenance of the budget is met. (Food costs, labor standards, inventory costs, other costs), • Supports the implementation of a corrective action plan to improve managers' leadership development and performance, • Supports managers with adhering to sanitation standards and benchmarks on bi-annual health inspections, • Supports the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at the school and central office levels, • Supports monitoring schools and/or serves in the capacity of Acting Manager when manager is absent, FMLA or extended leave, as needed, • Participates in preparing and cooking meals as needed, • Supports Regional Area Coordinators or Nutrition Leadership with employee screening, interviewing, and hiring process of food service workers, as needed, • Assists with ONE (Orientation for Nutrition Employees) training for nutrition program staff, as needed., • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours, and as needed., • Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines related to nutrition programs, including National School Lunch Program, Supper, Snack, and Summer Feeding, • Knowledge of food service standards, including food preparation, portion control, serving procedures, and sanitation practices; knowledge of purchasing and financial management procedures, • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local school food and nutrition policies and procedures, • Ability to supervise and work effectively with department personnel, • Above average decision-making and problem-solving skills, • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, • Excellent organizational and leadership skills, • Ability to use Microsoft Office or Google Suite MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: • High school diploma or GED required, • Associate degree preferred, • A combination of experience and education may be used to meet the associate degree. (2 years of similar work experience = 1 year of college) CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: • Completion of Orientation for Nutrition Employees, • Valid ServSafe Certification Required within 3 months of hire date, • Completion of the GADOE Manager and Culinary Pathway training or, • Manager TID Equilivant Course Work within 6 months of hire date, • Valid Georgia driver's license and private transportation to travel between district facilities WORK EXPERIENCE: • Three (3) years of experience as a school nutrition cafeteria manager, or, • Five (5) years of food service industry supervisory experience required COMPENSATION Salary Grade: 122 Salary Range: ___ Work Year: Annual (252 - Day) PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONS The physical abilities, working conditions and other conditions of employment listed in this document are representative of, but are not intended to provide an exhaustive list of the requirements for positions in this classification. Must exert over 100 pounds of force occasionally, over 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or over 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; Regular exposure to weather, including heat, cold, dampness, and/or humidity. Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records. Understand how to manage stress Additional Work Conditions & Physical Abilities: Will require travel to multiple sites. Extended hours may be required depending on each situation. Must understand and have full knowledge of the occupational hazards in using power tools and equipment and of necessary safety precautions. Requires extensive safety training and/or protective devices.
