Job DescriptionJob Title: Machine Operator Job Description This role involves operating wire braiding and extrusion machines that apply protective jackets and wrapping to various types of wire. You will set up and run machines according to customer specifications, handle raw materials and finished products, and perform basic adjustments to ensure accurate lengths, order sizes, and quality output. The position requires a mechanically inclined individual who can work independently, follow detailed instructions, and support a lean production environment. Responsibilities • Operate wire braiding machines and extrusion machines to apply jackets and protective coverings to wire according to customer specifications., • Set up machines by loading raw wire, feeding it through designated guides and ports, and connecting it to the appropriate rails and spools., • Perform the jacketing process by running plain wire through the extrusion machine so it can be covered with liquid rubber or plastic jackets in various colors, ensuring proper coverage and quality., • Monitor the cooling process as jacketed wire passes through water to ensure it is cooled adequately before wrapping onto wooden spools., • Use the plastic wrapping function on the machines to apply clear plastic around wire so it remains secure and does not unwind., • Perform bundling operations by aligning multiple types of finished wire, feeding them through the correct ports, and ensuring they are bundled together, wrapped with clear plastic, and rolled onto wooden spools., • Move and position rails of wire to the proper machines, ensuring the correct wire types are used for each job and are set according to customer specifications., • Use basic math skills to adjust orders for length, order size, and other minor specifications to match customer requirements., • Load raw materials into machines and unload finished materials from machines at the end of production runs., • Use hand tools, tape measures, calipers, and other basic measuring and mechanical tools to verify dimensions and support machine setup and adjustments., • Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting on machines to resolve minor issues and maintain consistent production., • Follow blueprints or production instructions to ensure correct setup and operation of machines., • Assist with changeovers between different wire types or orders by adjusting machine settings, guides, and feeds as needed., • Maintain a clean and organized work area and support general production and assembly tasks as required., • Work safely by following all plant safety procedures, including proper handling of materials and equipment., • Work independently as a self-starter in a lean production environment, managing tasks and priorities with minimal supervision.Essential Skills, • Experience operating machines such as extrusion machines, wire braiding machines, or similar production equipment., • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to be mechanically inclined for machine setup, adjustment, and basic troubleshooting., • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs to move rails of wire and other materials to appropriate machines., • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, to adjust lengths, order sizes, and other specifications., • Experience with general production tasks such as loading raw materials, unloading finished materials, and feeding machines., • Ability to use hand tools, tape measures, and calipers to measure and verify product dimensions and setups., • Comfort with general labor tasks, including assembly, loading, unloading, and handling materials., • Ability to work as a self-starter in a lean environment with limited direct supervision., • Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills to address minor machine issues during production., • Ability to follow blueprints or written production instructions accurately.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Previous experience as a Machine Operator, Extrusion Machine Operator, or in a similar manufacturing or cable production role., • Familiarity with wire braiding, extrusion processes, and cable production is a strong plus., • Experience with changeovers on production equipment, including adjusting setups for different products or orders., • Comfort working with mechanical systems and production machinery in a manufacturing environment., • Strong attention to detail to ensure wires are correctly jacketed, wrapped, bundled, and spooled., • Good organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and maintain an orderly work area.Why Work Here? Work Environment The facility is organized and clean, providing a structured manufacturing environment with approximately 18–25 employees, including 15–20 working on the shop floor. Team members generally focus on their own tasks with limited day-to-day interaction, making it a good fit for individuals who prefer working independently. The role follows a second-shift schedule of 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. You will work around extrusion and wire braiding equipment, handling rails of wire, wooden spools, and plastic or rubber jacketing materials in a production setting. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and efficient use of equipment in a lean operation. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bristol, CT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
