Job Description A manufacturing and software company in the Virginia Beach area is seeking an individual eager to build a long-term career in a friendly, fast-growing and team-oriented environment. This position necessitates an energetic, self-motivated and meticulous individual to operate multiple machines fluidly while managing, leading and monitoring daily day-to-day functions and personnel oversight of a busy Manufacturing Department. The successful candidate must consistently demonstrate the capacity to detect and communicate production quality variations in tandem with organizational, time, and priority-management abilities while coaching members of the team as needed to optimize the efficiency of the manufacturing team. Exceptional organizational, leadership, communication and time-management skills are critical for success in this position. Duties • Oversee day-to-day operation, monitor team performance, and motivate team members., • Assist with production scheduling and assign tasks in accordance with meeting established deadlines and production expectations., • Support management with forecasting and planning upcoming production needs (Personnel, equipment, materials, etc.) by conducting analysis of department operations and providing informed feedback and/or reports to management., • Track and monitor production metrics, implement working solutions when needed, and provide reports and recommendations to Directors, Upper Management, and lateral department managers., • Oversee quality control standards and initiatives within the department and conduct routine QC audits, reporting, and training., • Train, and support team members and oversee all safety initiatives and standards, continuous improvement efforts, and equipment preventative maintenance program within assigned department., • Oversee and ensure accurate, thorough, and efficient inventory storage, tracking, and production reporting by team members., • Drive company vehicles and forklifts to move materials and supplies within the department and/or other facilities., • Assists management with interviewing and hiring front-line employees., • Oversees all training and cross-training of front-line employees., • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations., • Oversees and approves team members schedules and timecards., • Participate in leadership meetings and conduct departmental meetings. (Serve as spokesperson for department)., • Enforces accountability of team members, makes recommendations for, and conducts disciplinary actions and/or termination of employees in accordance with company policy., • Resolve any personnel concerns or issues within the department., • Effectively collaborate with other managers and supervisors to coordinate activities in and among departments., • Investigate discrepancies that occur related to inventory, production reporting, quality, or general department operations, submit reporting’s and recommendations to management, and implement effective resolutions or process changes as needed., • Assist management and production coordinator in researching and addressing departmental related questions and discrepancies., • Assist in the efficient and safe operation and maintenance work of all machinery within the assigned department as needed., • Set up, break down, clean-up and/or maintain machinery as required., • Validate stock accuracy and quality consistency within the production run., • Associate’s degree in related field, or equivalent industry work experience required; Bachelor’s degree in Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred., • Minimum 5 years in manufacturing or production with 1+ years experience in a supervisory role., • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software – emphasis on Excel., • Excellent communication and leadership skills., • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines., • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills., • Proficiency with computerized production and distribution systems desired but not required., • Candidate must understand general machine mechanics with demonstrable and strong mechanical aptitude and skills., • Fine motor skills, including, but not limited to, the full, complete use of and muscle control required to make precise hand movements, relative to tasks requiring hand-eye coordination, muscle coordination and dexterity., • Valid (non-suspended or limited) Driver’s License to transport product in company vehicles., • Experience in presswork, bindery, production and/or quality assurance is preferred, but training offered to those with strong mechanical aptitude., • Ability to operate stand-up and sit down forklifts requires, active forklift certification preferred., • Physically able to stand for long periods of time., • Physically able to push/pull/lift/carry supplies and various works in progress of at least 35-50 pounds., • Physically able to bend/kneel/walk/stand, in tandem with cart, stepstools or rolling ladders, to access supplies and various works in progress or other materials as needed in storage rooms or production areas. General Expectations • Ability to quickly learn and appropriately utilize internal applications and knowledge bases as needed for timely completion of daily tasks., • Ability to communicate, both verbally or written, in a professional and grammatically correct manner where needed or when required with clients, service providers, and/or fellow employees., • Ability to read, process and follow written directions and procedures., • Ability to begin, continue, or find work without needing to be told or encouraged to do so., • Ability to maintain focus and concentration for long periods of time on computer- (seated) or machine-related (standing) tasks., • Ability to maintain routine and predictability in dynamic and open-office environment., • Ability to prioritize, accomplish goals within set timeframes, and maintain required metrics as per job specifications., • Ability to work in concert with a team or independently, with or without direct supervision/guidance as needed., • Ability to self-manage and multi-task while making fact-based or historically valid and justifiable decisions., • Ability to assist, support, or work in close and harmonious relationship with all inter- and intra-departmental personnel as needed or requested., • Good vision, with or without corrective lenses, in order to sustain adequate visual focus over extended periods of time., • Ability to consistently comply with established procedures, rules, and regulations., • Ability to maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area as per company and/or OSHA Standards.
