What youll do • Clinical Care: Greet and triage patients, collect vitals/histories, perform venipuncture and CLIA-waived point-of-care testing (COVID, flu, strep, glucose, A1C, UA, etc.), assist with minor procedures, wound care, EKGs, and nebulizer therapy., • Insurance Verification & Front Desk: Register patients, verify insurance eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile payment logs, and maintain EMR accuracy., • Patient Service: Educate patients on both clinical procedures and financial expectations, provide clear discharge instructions, and de-escalate concerns with empathy and professionalism., • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program., • Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) at hire., • At least 1+ year of experience with insurance verification and patient registration required., • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or ability to obtain before starting)., • Urgent care or emergency room experience highly valued., • EMR proficiency (Experity preferred); comfort with payer portals (e.g., Waystar)., • Must successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check as a condition of employment., • Full availability including ability to work evenings/weekends and float to nearby centers as needed.Why Youll Love Working Here, • Competitive pay and benefits package., • Opportunities for professional growth and cross-training., • Collaborative, supportive, patient-first team culture. Job Description SportsMED Orthopaedic Surgery & Spine Center is currently seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join our Orthopedic Urgent Care team in Huntsville, AL. At least 2 years of CMA experience is preferred. Experience in an orthopedic practice a plus. Key Responsibilities: * Clinical Support: • Assist healthcare providers during patient exams and procedures by preparing equipment, ensuring sterile environments, and providing instruments or supplies as needed., • Take and record vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration rate) and document findings accurately., • Prepare patients for examinations by collecting medical histories and explaining procedures., • Prepare and assist with diagnostic tests or procedures, including EKGs and other routine tests., • Provide basic patient care, such as wound care and assisting with mobility if needed. Administrative Support: • Manage patient flow, schedule appointments, and handle patient check-ins/check-outs., • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records, including documenting procedures, test results, and patient interactions in electronic health records (EHR) systems., • Process patient billing information, including insurance verification and co-payment collection., • Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and assist in managing patient referrals and authorizations., • Ensure all required forms, consents, and documents are completed and filed appropriately.
