It operates approximately 800 school bus routes throughout all of NYC with a staff of approximately 1,800 people from six locations with a budget of $190 million. NYSCBUS’s goal is to radically improve student bus transportation by innovating in all areas and by providing unprecedented transparency in bus operations to school districts that outsource this service. Key Work Responsibilities: • Promote Safety Culture, • Support and reinforce NYCSBUS’s safety culture through one-on-one and group employee training and coaching to bus drivers, attendants, mechanics and other employees, • Work with depot management teams to understand and improve employee performance to raise awareness of and support the safety culture., • Identify and assist with pre- and post-trip inspections, working with Fleet Maintenance staff to ensure vehicle problems are corrected timely and initiating corrective action with employees for non-compliance., • Evaluate the performance of Drivers and Attendants by riding along on and following routes, providing guidance and instruction based on observations., • Develop and review safety and performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Present findings to the Director of Safety & Training as well as the impacted depot management teams., • Deliver first aid, CPR, OSHA, materials handling, fire safety and other training., • Empower employees by creating a culture that supports safe, consistent service., • Identify and Resolve Problems, • Conduct or facilitate a comprehensive investigation process following vehicle collisions or employee workplace accidents, which may include an on-scene investigation. Conduct follow-up meetings with involved employees and/or witnesses. Either prepare or review reports completed by others to ensure completion and accuracy, and submit a comprehensive post-incident summary to NYCSBUS Leadership, and recommend corrective action where appropriate., • Conduct investigations of actual and potential hazards within our depots, shops and facilities., • Engage with the New York City Office of Pupil Transportation to address and resolve school bus route safety and logistical concerns., • Interface with school officials, support staff and paraeducators to investigate and resolve matters of concern regarding Driver or Attendant performance, and/or student conduct., • Keep Our Employees and Depots Compliant, • Work in conjunction with the Safety Leadership to ensure that depots are compliant with safety standards and that employees are properly qualified to perform their jobs. Facilitate the gathering of requalification forms, answer employees questions, etc., • Facilitate the timely completion of random, post-accident and reasonable suspicion drug & alcohol testing., • Work with the facilities and fleet maintenance staff, ensure facilities and equipment are compliant with regulations, licensing and best practices for safety, licensure, emergency response and other compliance., • Provide Operational Support to the Depots and Bus Operations, • Support the General Managers to ensure that daily depot operations are executed as designed, challenges are mitigated quickly and accurately, and service delivery is provided to stakeholders efficiently and consistently., • Work in conjunction with Safety Leadership and the depot management teams to perform other duties as assigned., • In rare instances, act as a bus driver to complete a route. Qualifications • Eligible to work in the U.S, • At least 5 years of experience in bus driver management and/or field supervision. Student transportation is strongly preferred., • At least 3 years of training bus drivers behind the wheel, • At least 2 years of experience in safety compliance, preferably in a school bus environment, • DMV 19-A Certification required, • Valid NY CDL (Class B) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements or able to obtain it within 90 days., • Bilingual: Spanish, or French or Haitian Creole highly valued, • High School diploma or equivalent. A degree from an accredited university is preferred., • Training and/or certification in Reasonable Suspicion is required., • Training and/or certification in CPR and First Aid is strongly preferred., • Exceptional knowledge of bus driving safety standards, laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to pupil transportation., • Knowledge of the principles and practices of pupil transportation planning, scheduling and route development., • Working knowledge of New York State and New York City Departments of Education’s rules and regulations, local policies, procedures, and expectations is helpful., • Ability to provide driving staff with quality in-house professional development opportunities to increase proficiency in their fields of expertise., • Ability to work well under pressure and use sound judgment, including appropriate handling of confidential matters., • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other professionals in a team setting., • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information at all times. POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Peer Mentor + Driver for our Harm Reduction Services conducts outreach to drug using populations to engage persons in services, provides individual education to reduce health-related harm from injection and other drug use, facilitates enrollment in Opioid Use Disorder Medicated Assisted Treatment programs when desired, conducts sterile syringe exchange, trains on opioid overdose reversal, and facilitates HIV and Hepatitis C (HCV) counseling and testing. This individual also is the primary driver for our Mobile Health Unit. The SPM works in the community, on CHASI’s mobile health unit, and in office-based settings to reach long-term and newer substance users, to partner with them as they set their own goals for improving their health and well-being, and to help them navigate service systems to achieve those goals. This position works 4 days per week, Monday-Thursday, 10 hours per day; flexibility required for occasional Friday or weekend events. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Provide timely services as the Mobile Health Unit Driver to and from all scheduled activities, including some weekends., • Adhere to the protocol for acceptable divers as outlined in the agency driving policies and procedures. Report any MHU maintenance issues to Operations immediately., • Ability to drive Mobile Food Pantry Truck and facilitate distribution as needed during regular driver’s time off., • Maintain accurate written / electronic records of daily vehicle usage log and other required documents., • Conduct street outreach and community presentations to engage and inform drug using individuals about harm reduction interventions., • Conduct harm reduction-oriented individual and group education encounters with drug users to reduce the transmission of blood-borne diseases, other infections, and drug overdose., • Enroll individuals in State-authorized syringe exchange program and provide exchanges that promote the consistent use of sterile syringes and safe collection of used syringes., • Distribute naloxone kits to reverse opioid overdose and provide group and individual trainings on their correct use., • Provide HIV, HCV, and STI testing and facilitate linkage to care, in accordance with standards set by NYS Department of Health/AIDS Institute and CHASI (in-house tester training provided)., • Provide information, referral, navigation, and coordination assistance that links individuals to health and human services responsive to their individually expressed needs and interests.
