American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Labor and Delivery for a travel nursing job in Puyallup, Washington. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: Labor and Delivery, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 04/06/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, days, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Days, 3x12hrs, • Hours: 36 hrs/wk, • Start Date: Apr 6, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • Work in the Birth Center of a Level III Trauma Center with 375 licensed beds, • Unit includes 9 LDR rooms, 2 OB ORs, 2 OB PACU beds, an 11-bed Level II NICU, a 4-bed Peds unit, a 20-bed Mother/Baby unit, an 18-bed START unit for perinatal addiction, and 3 OB ED beds (20 weeks and above), • Level II Perinatal Center serving patients 32 weeks and above, with approximately 175–200 deliveries per month, • Common patient cases include hypertension, magnesium administration, substance abuse medication management, epidurals, fetal monitoring, antepartum care, and a high volume of low-risk patients requiring intermittent monitoring, • Patient ratios follow AWHONN and NANN guidelines: 1:1 for active labor, 1:2 for non-active laboring patients, • 12-hour day shifts (0700–1900), with schedules made in 3-week increments, • Rotating weekends required (every other weekend), • Holiday coverage required: one major and one minor holiday, • No on-call requirements, • Travelers float between L&D and Mother/Baby; will not float to the START unit and will only float to areas where competency is established, • EMR: Epic Stork and GE Centricity, • IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis (experience required)Requirements, • Active WA state or compact RN license required, • Current certifications required: BLS, NRP, and fetal monitoring (AWHONN or Relia's module), • Minimum 1 year of L&D experience required, • Proficiency in cervical exams, antepartum and active labor care, amnioinfusion, epidural assistance, fetal monitoring, IV management, and Pitocin administration, • Post-partum experience including couplet care, basic breastfeeding support, and mom-and-baby care beyond the transition period, • Experience with HUGS security system and Pyxis medication dispensing required, • Two references required (supervisor-level or above, such as charge nurse, manager, or director); one reference may be submitted initially with a second required prior to startAdditional Information, • Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care including antepartum monitoring, active labor support, and post-partum couplet care, • Stable post-labor patients and babies transition to the Mother/Baby unit; 32–34 week babies transfer to the NICU, • The START unit is a voluntary inpatient addiction medicine program for pregnant women — travelers will not be assigned to this unit, • Department support includes phlebotomy services, respiratory therapy (RT) 24/7 for high-risk deliveries, hospitalist coverage 24/7, a laborist OB/GYN 24/7, midwife and family practice groups, and NICU attendance for deliveries at 34 weeks or less, • No CNAs on the unit; surgery techs available Monday–Friday 0600–1500, • Orientation includes facility NEO and two unit shifts (one focused on vaginal delivery, one on C-section and triage); annual core competencies, a medication exam, and a unit competency exam must be completed prior to arrival, • Scrubs are provided by the facility, • Free parking is available on-site, • RTO requests must be approved through the unit manager With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
