Job DescriptionJob Title: Yard WorkerJob Description The Yard Worker plays a key role in accurately checking in vehicles as they arrive on site, documenting their condition, and entering detailed information into a handheld device for use on the companys website. This position is entirely outdoors and involves working independently in a vehicle yard environment, using basic technology and hands-on inspection skills to support an efficient and high-quality vehicle inventory process. Responsibilities • Receive and check in vehicles as they are delivered to the yard., • Visually inspect each vehicle and document its overall condition., • Take clear, accurate photos of vehicles for use on the company website., • Perform a detailed inventory of each vehicle, noting the presence and condition of glass, body panels, and basic interior components., • Identify and record whether key exterior parts such as fenders, bumpers, hoods, and trunks are present or missing., • Check and document basic interior items such as steering wheel, seats, and radio., • Attempt to start each vehicle and document whether it runs., • Use a battery pack to attempt to jump-start vehicles that do not start initially., • Enter all inspection and inventory information into a handheld device similar to a tablet., • Use a smartphone or tablet-style device to navigate screens, input data, and complete required fields accurately., • Communicate with team members and office staff via handheld radio when support or clarification is needed., • Work independently in the yard with minimal direct supervision while maintaining productivity and accuracy., • Follow all safety guidelines while working around vehicles and equipment in an outdoor yard environment., • Work outdoors in all weather conditions and adapt to changing environmental conditions throughout the day., • Adhere to company policies regarding professional conduct, safety gear, and appropriate attire in the yard.Essential Skills, • Ability to perform general labor tasks in an outdoor yard environment., • Basic knowledge of common vehicle parts such as fender, bumper, hood, and trunk., • Ability to recognize and document missing body panels and damaged or missing glass., • Comfort using a smartphone or tablet to enter and manage data., • Basic computer skills for simple data entry and navigation of digital systems., • Ability to work independently with little to no direct supervision., • Capability to use a handheld radio for communication with the team., • Willingness and physical ability to work 100% of the time outdoors in various weather conditions., • Ability to learn new tasks quickly and apply training effectively within a short training period.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience with general labor or warehouse inventory work is helpful., • Experience working around vehicles or in automotive environments is beneficial., • No formal training is required; on-the-job training is provided., • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and handle multiple vehicles in a day., • Strong attention to detail when inspecting and documenting vehicle conditions., • Reliability and punctuality to support consistent yard operations.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is a 100% outdoor position, with all primary work conducted in the vehicle yard. The yard is fully fenced, and employees work around parked vehicles in an open, secure area. Breaks and lunch can be taken indoors, and additional breaks are provided during severe weather conditions. Safety gear and gloves are supplied, while employees provide their own clothing, with jeans and boots preferred and a casual dress code that avoids large logos or offensive print. The office area is open-plan with workstations and is described as very clean. The regular shift runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with overtime on Saturdays only as needed, typically 45 hours based on business demand. The current team consists of approximately eight employees, with plans to add two more, fostering a small, collaborative team environment. Employees use handheld tablet-like devices and handheld radios as part of their daily work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Dundee, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
