Job Description Title: Mechanical Engineer FLSA Status: Exempt Department: Engineering Company: Pacific Electric Switchgear Reports To: Mechanical Engineer Manager Location: Corona, CA – May support multiple facilities (approximately 5 miles apart) General Summary: The Mechanical Engineer designs and develops mechanical components and systems for low and medium voltage switchgear products to support manufacturing and customer requirements. This role is responsible for creating detailed engineering drawings, 3D models, and bills of materials while ensuring designs comply with applicable industry standards and integrate effectively with electrical systems. The Mechanical Engineer collaborates cross-functionally with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to deliver safe, manufacturable, and high-quality products. Essential Functions: • Designs mechanical components and assemblies for low and medium voltage switchgear systems, including enclosures, busbar supports, mounting structures, and equipment interfaces, • Interprets customer specifications, drawings, and project requirements to develop compliant and manufacturable mechanical designs, • Develops 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using CAD software to support manufacturing, assembly, and documentation, • Creates and maintains accurate bills of materials (BOMs) within ERP systems to support production, procurement, and material planning, • Ensures designs comply with applicable industry standards, including NEC, NFPA, ANSI, UL, IEEE, and IEC, • Collaborates with electrical engineering teams to ensure proper integration between mechanical and electrical systems, • Partners with production and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, efficient, and aligned with fabrication and assembly capabilities, • Reviews, analyzes, and validates designs to identify risks, improve product performance, and ensure quality and reliability, • Supports engineering change orders (ECOs) and maintains accurate documentation to reflect design updates and revisions, • Troubleshoots and resolves production issues related to mechanical design, providing timely and effective technical solutions, • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product design, engineering processes, and manufacturing efficiency, • Maintains organized engineering documentation, drawings, and records in accordance with company standards and revision control processes REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Core Competencies / Skill Sets • Mechanical Design Engineering Expertise, designing and developing mechanical components and assemblies for low and medium voltage switchgear systems, including enclosures, busbar supports, and mounting structures, • CAD Modeling and Technical Drawing Proficiency, creating detailed 3D models, layouts, and engineering drawings using CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or AutoCAD, • Standards and Regulatory Compliance, ensuring designs meet applicable industry standards including NEC, NFPA, ANSI, UL, IEEE, and IEC, • Design for Manufacturability (DFM), applying knowledge of fabrication, machining, and assembly processes to develop efficient, manufacturable designs, • Technical Problem Solving and Root Cause Analysis, analyzing design challenges, troubleshooting production issues, and developing effective engineering solutions, • BOM Management and ERP Integration, creating and maintaining accurate bills of materials and engineering data within ERP systems to support production and procurement, • Cross-Functional Engineering Collaboration, working effectively with Electrical Engineering, Production, Quality, and Purchasing teams to ensure successful product execution, • Product Validation and Quality Focus, reviewing and validating designs to ensure accuracy, reliability, and adherence to quality standards, • Attention to Detail and Engineering Accuracy, maintaining precision in drawings, models, calculations, and documentation, • Continuous Improvement and Engineering Optimization, identifying opportunities to improve product design, processes, and overall manufacturing efficiency, • Language and Communication Skills, ability to read, write, and speak English is required; bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred Professional Experience/Education/Certifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field required, • 2–5 years of mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, • 2–5 years of experience designing mechanical components and assemblies, including sheet metal structures, fabricated parts, and mechanical systems, • 2–5 years of experience developing 3D models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation using CAD software, • 2–5 years of experience creating and maintaining bills of materials (BOMs) and engineering data within ERP systems, • 2–5 years of experience working with and applying industry standards, including NEC, NFPA, ANSI, UL, IEEE, and IEC, • 2–5 years of experience supporting manufacturing, production, or engineering environments, including troubleshooting design-related issues and supporting production needs Additional Eligibility Qualifications: None required for this position.
