Job Description Job Title: Sustaining Engineer I Department: Manufacturing Engineering Reports To: Manufacturing Engineering Manager Summary The Sustaining Engineer I serves as a key technical conduit between Design Engineering and Operations, collaborating closely with design & application engineering, manufacturing engineering, fabrication, assembly, planning, and purchasing. This role requires strong urgency, accountability, and follow-through to drive issues to resolution. Working directly on the production floor in both the fabrication and assembly buildings, the Sustaining Engineer I ensures smooth product flow, supports troubleshooting, and provides high-quality customer service to Operations. This position plays a vital role in maintaining product quality, supporting continuous improvement, and ensuring operational efficiency across product lines. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities • Serve as the technical liaison between Design & Application Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Operations, ensuring effective communication and rapid problem resolution., • Provide on-floor support in fabrication and assembly areas, delivering immediate technical assistance and troubleshooting., • Collaborate with operations supervisors, leads, managers, and the master scheduler to resolve issues related to Bill of Materials (BOM), Methods of Manufacturing (MOM), Bill of Operations (BOO), drawings (DWG), schematics, and labeling., • Address production challenges such as setbacks, bend deductions, K-factors, callouts, missing/incorrect parts, part substitutions, design discrepancies, and alignment or wiring issues., • Recommend and support the implementation of improvements in manufacturing processes and design practices based on production feedback and analysis., • Document and log production data, providing actionable insights to the design team for product and process enhancements., • Ensure accurate completion of redlines and bluelines on job travelers, drawings, and schematics; follow up with planners and fabrication supervisors to confirm updates., • Coordinate with sourcing and purchasing teams to manage changes to purchased parts and ensure proper communication of modifications., • Perform design tasks—including 3D modeling, schematic creation, labeling, and drawing production—during periods without direct sustaining duties., • Communicate project status and information needs clearly to project teams, executives, engineering, and other departments as required., • Coordinate effectively with team members when project activities overlap., • Follow all defined processes within Epicor and adhere to operations procedures to ensure compliance with company standards and best practices. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. • Proven work experience as an Engineer in a manufacturing environment., • Strong desire to be hands-on and actively engaged in production floor problem-solving., • Detail-oriented and deadline-driven., • 1+ years of technical experience working with electrical and power equipment., • Excellent written and verbal communication skills., • Strong interpersonal skills., • Strong mathematical skills., • Proficiency in MS Office 365, SolidWorks, SigmaNest, and AutoCAD., • Ability to quickly understand and apply manufacturing methods., • Familiarity with Epicor MRP/ERP systems (BOMs, travelers, inventory, etc.)., • Strong sense of responsibility and accountability., • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team., • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision while meeting deadlines., • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent required., • Green Belt certification preferred., • Design experience and proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred., • Working knowledge of designing and testing electro-mechanical power systems preferred., • Experience with electronics and control systems preferred., • Bilingual in Spanish preferred., • Data analysis experience preferred., • Sheet metal experience preferred.
