Job Description Position Title Dean of Nursing and Health Science Description At Chattanooga College MDTC, the Dean of Nursing and Health Science will help implement our strategy of “Where a small school can make a BIG difference!!” The Dean of Nursing and Health Science will provide academic and administrative leadership to faculty and students within the Nursing and Health Science departments to support educational effectiveness, student retention, and institutional compliance. This includes responsibilities such as curriculum development, faculty supervision, resource management, and regulatory reporting. Ideal candidates must have excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and listening skills. Candidates must be able to adapt to a fast-paced work environment and manage multiple priorities and changing assignments. This is an instructional and administrative position supporting the Academic Affairs Department. This role requires considerable interaction with students, faculty, staff, and clinical partners through individual meetings, group sessions, and/or events. Deans are expected to possess extensive knowledge of nursing education standards, ACCSC accreditation requirements, and state board of nursing regulations. They must be able to interpret individual needs, provide personalized support, and work effectively with individuals who may be confused, stressed, or demanding. Employees in this role can expect to support individuals regarding academic progress, professional licensure requirements, and career goals, assist with decision-making related to curriculum and institutional processes, and help guide individuals toward successful outcomes. This position requires maintaining confidentiality and accurate records to ensure compliance with ACCSC accreditation standards, institutional policies, and federal regulations (e.g., FERPA, as applicable). The role may also support institutional events such as Orientation, Graduation, and Advisory Committee meetings. Salary Range (Commensurate with experience and credentials) Responsibilities • Provides leadership and oversight to a diverse population of nursing students and faculty, including regular contact regarding academic performance and clinical placement., • Implements institutional or departmental strategic priorities related to student learning outcomes, retention, and program completion., • Counsels, advises, or supports individuals through individual and group sessions to address academic concerns and provide career guidance., • Educates individuals on institutional resources, ACCSC policies, and professional nursing expectations., • Implements solutions, including technology, to promote efficiency, access, and success in the classroom and clinical settings., • Completes required professional development and training annually, ensuring the program meets ACCSC standards for educational administration., • Supports department-wide and student services initiatives, including the coordination of Program Advisory Committees., • Maintains accurate documentation and records in compliance with ACCSC, State Board of Nursing, and federal requirements., • Collaborates with departments and colleagues to increase engagement, retention, and success, especially for at-risk populations., • Provides appropriate referrals for personal, social, and/or academic concerns that may impair success., • Upholds confidentiality and complies with institutional policies, ACCSC accreditation standards, and federal regulations., • Assists with planning and coordination of events such as Graduation, Pinning Ceremonies, and workshops., • Maintains tools, systems, or resources necessary to effectively perform job duties, including simulation labs and clinical tracking software. Skills • Strong interpersonal, communication, and public presentation skills., • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external healthcare partners., • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in verbal and written formats., • Knowledge of the role’s function in supporting ACCSC educational standards and student success. Education or Training: • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required; Doctorate (DNP or PhD) preferred., • A minimum of 5 years of experience in nursing education or healthcare administration., • Experience in a post-secondary vocational or ACCSC-accredited environment is highly preferred
