Job Description Job Title: Shop Mechanic (Welding Fabricator) Department:Fleet & Warehouse Team Reports To: Fleet & Warehouse Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Position Details Schedule: Full-time (40+ hours/week) Location: Kansas City, MO Compensation: Competitive, based on experience Benefits: Comprehensive health benefits Nature of the Work As a Diesel Mechanic / Welding Fabricator for IBC Traffic, you are responsible for the maintenance, repair, and fabrication of diesel vehicles and related equipment used in our operations. In this key role, you will work closely with supervisors and team members to ensure all fleet equipment, including trucks and pavement marking machinery, operates safely and efficiently. Your expertise helps support the company's growth and operational success while maintaining compliance with industry standards. Essential Duties The duties of the Diesel Mechanic / Welding Fabricator include but are not limited to: • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on diesel vehicles such as gas F-150s, F-550s,, • Freightliners, Kenworth's, Isuzu's, 1500 Chevys, and Internationals, • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems, • Conduct welding and metal fabrication for equipment repair and customization, • Perform small engine repairs as needed on pavement marking and other related equipment, • Inspect and maintain pavement marking equipment, including paint, thermo, epoxy trucks, Mini-Macs, and paint sprayers, • Maintain accurate work and repair records for all vehicles and equipment serviced, • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize repair schedules and minimize downtime, • Ensure all repairs and maintenance comply with safety standards and company policies, • Assist with inventory management of parts and materials related to maintenance and fabrication, • Keep the maintenance shop and tools clean, organized, and in good working condition, • Communicate vehicle status, repair needs, and parts orders effectively to management, • Exercise initiative, or as directed, perform other duties to meet the needs of the organization. Key Skills and Abilities IBC Traffic is seeking a Diesel Mechanic / Welding Fabricator with the following skills and abilities to deliver reliable, safe, and timely maintenance services: • Strong knowledge of diesel engine mechanics, welding, and metal fabrication, • Preferred ability to diagnose and repair message and arrow boards, • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, • Attention to detail in diagnosing and repairing vehicles and equipment, • Comfortable with physically demanding tasks and lifting heavy parts, • Strict adherence to safety protocols and industry standards, • Familiarity with pavement marking equipment is a plus, • A strategic and tactical mindset essential for a startup organization like IBC, • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities, • Reliable team player who consistently arrives early and works flexible hours, • Effective communicator able to work with all levels inside and outside the organization, • Quick thinker who collaborates with team members to resolve challenges promptly, • Follows instructions and responds well to management direction, • Takes responsibility for actions, keeps commitments, and commits to long hours when needed, • Proactive in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment, • Completes tasks on time or provides alternate plans if delays occur, • Meets productivity standards and works efficiently to increase output, • Self-disciplined, decisive self-starter willing to accept consequences of decisions, • Adaptable to frequent change, delays, or unexpected events, • Passionate, forward-thinking, driven, with a high-energy work ethic beyond the norm Qualifications A strong personal value system that encompasses high integrity, honesty, a solid work ethic, high professional standards, and strong moral character. Having that down to earth, get stuff done attitude is a must. • A strong personal value system with high integrity, honesty, solid work ethic, professional standards, and strong moral character - a down-to-earth, get-it-done attitude is a must, • Minimum 5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic and/or welding fabricator, • Valid driver's license; CDL Class A or B preferred but not required, • Experience with pavement marking equipment (paint, thermo, epoxy trucks, Mini-Macs) preferred but not required, • Enrollment and completion of OSHA-10 certification preferred, • Active union membership preferred but not required, • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training and trade apprenticeships a plus, • State licensure to work with hazardous materials preferred but not required, • Must be 21 years of age or older, • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in physically demanding environments, • Comfortable climbing ladders and working at elevated levels, • Ability to operate a skid steer and forklift is a plus, • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and reliability, • Able to work independently or as part of a team, • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication with all levels of management, • English fluency required; Spanish fluency a plus, • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
