Job Description Title: Senior Security Officer Department/Location: St. Louis Position Type: Full-Time, 12-month Summary The Senior Security Officer serves the Principia community, guests, and the visiting public by upholding Principia’s standard of safety and security. The role provides a visible security presence, monitors traffic, events and campus activity, and responds to incidents and emergencies. The Senior Security Officer also maintains professional training standards and partners with internal departments and external agencies to ensure a safe and supportive campus environment. Primary Responsibilities • Works assigned security shifts as scheduled by Campus Security leadership; schedule and hours may vary based on operational needs, • Patrols campus by vehicle and on foot; monitors traffic, buildings, and campus activity to ensure a safe and harmonious environment, • Provides gatehouse coverage to support controlled campus access, • Partners with the Home Department to support student residential life and safety, helping to identify any needs or issues related to student life on campus, • Performs building lockups and security checks as required, • Maintains accurate daily activity logs using Omnigo software, • Investigates and prepares reports for vehicle accidents, • Investigates and documents after-hour accidents and injuries, working with Workplace Safety Director, to manage these incidents, • Conducts or partners with local law enforcement on criminal investigations and prepares written/typed reports, • Responds to burglar alarms at Holt House when on duty, • Responds to fire alarms and assists with emergency response and building evacuations, • Works with local law enforcement and emergency response agencies during campus emergencies, • Follows police/security protocols in the event of personnel disturbances, • Attends campus fire alarm and sprinkler system training, • Maintains annual First Aid/CPR/AED training and Stop the Bleed certification, • Understands and knows how to operate emergency communication systems, including Raptor Emergency Notification and Management System, Building Public Address System, and School Messenger, • Completes FEMA emergency management training, including but not limited to ICS 100, 200, and 700, • Maintains on-person, a listing of emergency contact numbers of Campus Security, • Learns and remains knowledgeable of the Security Department Handbook and departmental rules and general rules relevant to Principia standards; understands and supports the purpose of the Principia, and its rules and regulations Principia values the unique strengths each employee brings to their role. The following competencies are especially important for success at Principia: • Continuous Learning & Expertise: Demonstrates mastery in your area of responsibility and seeks opportunities for professional growth and development., • Accountability & Results Orientation: Manages time and priorities effectively, meets commitments, and consistently delivers high-quality outcomes., • Problem Solving & Judgment: Approaches challenges thoughtfully, considers multiple perspectives, and makes sound, timely decisions that support institutional goals., • Proactivity & Ownership: Takes initiative, anticipates needs, and drives projects forward with minimal supervision while taking responsibility for outcomes., • Excellence & Attention to Detail: Produces accurate, polished, and high-quality work; continuously looks for ways to improve systems, processes, and results., • Service Orientation: Builds positive, supportive relationships and responds promptly and professionally to the needs of students, colleagues, and other stakeholders., • Collaboration & Collegiality: Works cooperatively across departments and teams; values input from others and contributes to a positive, respectful environment., • Communication: Shares information clearly and concisely; listens carefully to others and adjusts communication style for different audiences and situations., • 3-5 years of a certified background in law enforcement, fire protection, or US military, or equivalent level of school-based security experience and training, • Ability to immediately obtain and maintain a St. Louis County Security Officer License, • Crisis Intervention Training (adult and/or juvenile) preferred, • Experience training others in emergency response or other related fields, with formal instructor certification preferred, • Ability to become proficient in all Campus Security-related systems, including electronic locks, keycards, and video surveillance, • Must have a valid driver’s license, • Ability to pass police/agency background security check and to pass police/security professional training course(s), • Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs., and occasionally assist in moving heavier items or individuals during emergency situations, • Ability to perform prolonged standing and walking, conduct routine patrols, and respond quickly to emergencies, including running short distances, climbing stairs, and physically intervening as necessary Compensation and Benefits We offer a competitive starting salary range for this position: $24.15 – 28.09 hourly, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
