Job DescriptionSalary: Survey Instrument Operator Land Development Surveying Location: High Point, NC Department: Surveying Reports To: Field Crew Coordinator FLSA Status: Non-Exempt About the Role FEI is seeking a Survey Instrument Operator to support land development surveying projects by assisting Survey Party Chiefs in the field. This is an entry-level field position focused on learning professional land surveying practices, equipment operation, and job-site coordination. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy outdoor, hands-on work and are interested in building a long-term career in land surveying. Key Responsibilities • Assist the Survey Party Chief with day-to-day field surveying operations, • Learn and apply proper field surveying methods and procedures, • Support field work for:, • Boundary surveys, • Topographic surveys, • Control surveys, • Mortgage surveys, • As-built surveys, • Construction staking and layout, • Operate and help maintain survey equipment under supervision, • Assist with gathering tools and supplies before leaving the office each day, • Perform assigned tasks accurately, safely, and efficiently, • Clearly record field notes and observations, • High school diploma, • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain, • Ability to take direction and work as part of a field crew, • Strong attention to detail and basic problem-solving skills, • Exposure to land surveying or construction environments, • Experience with Topcon survey equipment, • Interest in advancing toward Survey Technician, Party Chief, or SI roles, • Primarily field-based position, • Work occurs in varied outdoor environments and weather conditions This position requires the ability to: • Move across varied terrain for extended periods, • Transport and position survey equipment of varying weights, • Operate precision instruments outdoors, • Maintain physical stamina in diverse weather conditions, • Utilization, • Efficiency, • Responsibility, • Communication All candidates receiving an offer must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening per FEI Health and Safety requirements and may be subject to random drug screening while on job sites.
