American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Springfield, Illinois. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: Med Surg, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 03/02/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Work in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within an acute care, teaching hospital setting, • Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated facility, • Patient population includes cardiac, neuro stepdown, post-cardiac procedures, renal, trauma, orthopedic, and post-surgical cases, • Night shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts, with option for 4x12 hour shifts if preferred, • Every other weekend required, • No on-call required, • Floating within scope to similar units as needed, • Uses Cerner EMR; Cerner experience preferred, • Provide comprehensive care for a diverse PCU stepdown patient population, including monitoring for and managing a wide variety of acute and complex needs, • Participate in wound care, isolation precautions, and rapid response teams, • Team environment with support from experienced clinical staff in a teaching hospital setting, • RTO restrictions apply; ideally no more than 5 days off requested during contract, • No local radius restrictions; local candidates accepted at the same rate, • Any solid color scrubs allowed, • Parking is provided at no cost with a permit obtained during orientation, • Holiday shifts may be required as part of the regular schedule, • Must be comfortable with standard professional requirements for documentation and clinical skills\n \n Requirements\n, • Active IL RN license required at time of application, • Minimum 1 year experience in telemetry, neuro stepdown, PCU, DOU, IMC, or equivalent stepdown settings, • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) and NIH Stroke Scale certifications required; ACLS preferred, • Demonstrated skills in dysrhythmia interpretation/management, cardiac monitoring, rapid response, and management of various cardiac and neuro conditions, • Experience with cardiovascular procedures (post-cardiac angiogram/MI, post-cath, pre/post cardiac surgery, sheath removal, TR Band), • Proficiency in gastrointestinal, genitourinary, renal, IV therapy, phlebotomy, medication management, and respiratory skills relevant to PCU, • Hospital Level I trauma and teaching hospital experience preferred, • Cerner EMR experience preferred, • First time travelers are not accepted\n Benefits\n, • High Pay and Bonuses, • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options, • 401(k) Plan, • Weekly Payroll Deposit, • Free Online CEUs, • Generous Housing Allowance, • Travel and Licensure Reimbursements, • Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
