Job DescriptionJob Title: CNC Lathe Machinist Job Description This role focuses on setting up, operating, and optimizing CNC lathes in a clean, climate-controlled machine shop that utilizes a wide range of advanced equipment. You will handle complete setups, tool changes, minor program edits, and precision measurements to ensure parts consistently meet close and exact tolerances while maintaining high levels of productivity and quality. Responsibilities • Set up CNC lathe machines completely, including preparing workholding, tools, and programs for production runs., • Operate and run CNC lathe machinery efficiently to meet production goals and maintain consistent workflow., • Perform all tool changeovers and tool offset adjustments to maintain part quality and reduce downtime., • Make minor edits and adjustments to CNC programs (including G-code) as needed to achieve required specifications., • Run and measure parts to close and exact tolerances, using appropriate measuring tools and techniques., • Make accurate quality measurements, check dimensions, and analyze data to verify parts meet specifications., • Adjust machine settings and tooling based on measurement results to keep parts within tolerance., • Monitor CNC machines during operation to ensure productivity, detect issues, and take corrective action promptly., • Work collaboratively with a team of machinists to support smooth operations across multiple machines., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with shop standards.Essential Skills, • Hands-on experience with CNC machining and CNC lathe operation., • Proficiency in CNC setup, including setting up machines, workholding, and tooling., • Ability to perform CNC set up and changeovers on lathes such as Mori Seiki and similar equipment., • Experience with G-code programming and the ability to perform minor program edits and adjustments., • Capability to run and measure parts to close and exact tolerances., • Strong understanding of precision measurement, dimensional inspection, and part verification., • Ability to analyze measurement data and make appropriate machine or tooling adjustments to meet part specifications., • Familiarity with CNC mills and CNC programs in a production environment., • Comfort working with various CNC machine brands such as Haas, Kitamura, Okuma, Cincom Citizen, and Mori Seiki.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working on twin spindle and two turret CNC lathes, particularly Mori Seiki platforms., • Background in operating or supporting a variety of machining centers, including horizontal and vertical machining centers., • Exposure to machine shop support equipment such as sand blasting, grinders, honing machines, laser engraving machines, drill presses, hydraulic presses, band saws, and MIG welding machines., • Ability to collaborate effectively with a team of machinists in a structured, organized environment., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precision components.Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a climate-controlled, very clean, quiet, and highly organized manufacturing environment. Openings are available on 1st and 2nd shift: Monday–Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., or Monday–Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 1:45 a.m., with 4–5 hours of overtime available weekly. You will work primarily on a Mori Seiki twin spindle, two turret CNC lathe, alongside a team of approximately 15–17 machinists on 1st shift. The machine shop includes extensive CNC turning capability (Citizen M32 Y Axis Swiss Type Lathe; Mori Seiki SL2500Y, ZT2500Y, NLX2500Y CNC Lathes; Okuma LU400M CNC Lathe), horizontal machining centers (Kitamura Mycenter-HX500I and Mori Seiki SH-400 with full 4th axis), engine lathes (Clausing, Ganesh, Lagun, South Bend, Weisser Turret Lathe), vertical knee mills (Bridgeport Series 1 and Lagun), and vertical machining centers (multiple Kitamura Mycenter 3XIF, 4XIF, 7XIF with Tsudakoma full 4th axis, Makino FNC40 with Tsudakoma full 4th axis, Milltronics RH20, and Mori Seiki SV-500 with pallet shuttle and Tsudakoma full 4th axis). Additional support equipment includes sand blasting units, various grinders, honing machines, laser engraving machines, drill presses and hydraulic presses, band saws, and MIG weld machines, providing a comprehensive and well-resourced machining environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of SAINT LOUIS, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
