Position SummaryBach to Rock Herndon is seeking an experienced Strings Instructor (violin, viola, cello, and/or double bass) to teach private lessons and, as needed, small group classes or ensembles. The ideal candidate is: • A strong, confident player on at least one orchestral string instrument, • An organized, prepared, and professional instructor, • Comfortable working with children, teens, and adults at varying levels, • Experienced in communicating with parents and collaborating with school staffThis is a part-time, hourly position with primarily afternoon, evening, and weekend teaching hours. Key Responsibilities • Teach private lessons on one or more orchestral string instruments (violin, viola, cello, double bass) to students of different ages and skill levels., • (As needed) Lead or assist with small group classes, ensembles, or workshops focused on strings., • Plan and deliver structured lessons that align with school expectations and curriculum, incorporating technique, music literacy, and appropriate repertoire., • Prepare students for recitals, performances, and other school events, including assisting with music selection and performance readiness., • Communicate clearly and professionally with parents, students, and staff regarding progress, expectations, and studio standards., • Monitor student attendance and communicate any concerns about patterns of absence or engagement to the front desk or school leadership., • Collaborate with the front desk, which manages all cancellations, makeups, and scheduling changes, to ensure accurate schedules and continuity of instruction., • Arrive on time and prepared for all lessons, maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor., • Strong playing ability on at least one orchestral string instrument (violin, viola, cello, or double bass)., • Minimum of 2 years of regular teaching experience on your primary instrument(s), • Examples include teaching in a private studio, music school, school orchestra program, or similar instructional setting., • Experience working with children and/or teens in a structured educational or instructional environment., • Comfortable teaching beginner through at least intermediate levels (advanced level instruction is a plus)., • Reliable, punctual, and organized, with consistent follow-through and professional communication., • Ability to provide patient, encouraging, and clear instruction tailored to individual student needs., • Willingness to learn and follow Bach to Rock Herndon policies, procedures, and curriculum expectations., • Bachelors degree in Music, Music Education, or a closely related field; or equivalent professional performance experience., • Experience teaching in a private music school, university prep program, or similar structured setting., • Experience preparing students for recitals, auditions, youth orchestra participation, or similar performance goals., • Ability to teach more than one strings instrument (for example, violin and viola, or cello and bass)., • This is a part-time, hourly role., • Primary teaching hours are afternoons, evenings, and weekends., • The number of hours varies based on demand and student enrollment; weekly hours may increase or decrease over time., • A consistent weekly teaching schedule is required during agreed-upon time blocks., • This position is hourly and part-time., • The starting rate is $17.00 to $17.50 per hour, based on experience, skills, and overall fit with the role., • There is potential for pay increases over time, based on factors such as:, • Teaching performance and instructional quality, • Student and parent satisfaction and feedback, • Student retention and schedule stability, • Reliability, professionalism, and commitment to the school, • Other considerations determined by school leadership, • Your resume, including your primary instrument(s) and teaching experience, • A brief note describing:, • Your teaching background on strings, • Your experience working with children and teens, • Your general afternoon, evening, and weekend availabilityCandidates selected for the next step will be contacted for an initial interview.
