Job Description Job Description: Senior Accountant / Staff Accountant Location: San Jose, CA Department: Finance Reports To: Controller Supervises: 1 Summary: The Senior Accountant is a hands-on finance professional responsible for managing and analyzing cost accounting activities in a manufacturing environment while supporting general ledger and financial reporting. This role partners closely with operations, supply chain, and plant leadership to ensure accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and margin analysis. The position plays a critical role in driving cost control, operational efficiency, and informed business decision-making, and also supports month-end close, sales & use tax filings, and ERP process integrity. Key Responsibilities Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance • Maintain and analyze standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead; validate BOMs, routings, work centers, and cost roll-ups in the ERP., • Review and explain manufacturing variances (material usage, purchase price variances, labor efficiency, scrap, overhead absorption) and communicate drivers and corrective actions to management., • Oversee inventory accounting for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods, including cycle counts, annual physical inventories, and related adjustments and reserves., • Support pricing decisions, margin analysis, and product/customer profitability reviews; prepare and track cost standards and variances at SKU and product family levels., • Partner with operations to identify cost drivers and cost reduction opportunities; participate in CI/lean initiatives and operational KPI reviews., • Participate in monthly/quarterly/annual close, ensuring timely and accurate recognition of inventory, COGS, manufacturing costs, accruals, and reserves., • Prepare and review journal entries; perform balance sheet reconciliations (inventory, PPV, GR/IR, prepaids, accruals, intercompany, payroll-related accounts, cash)., • Analyze P &L and balance sheet results; prepare variance analyses and narrative commentary for management., • Support financial statement preparation in accordance with US GAAP and company policies., • Support internal and external audits, including inventory observations, roll-forwards, and cost-related audit requests. Budgeting, Forecasting & Reporting • Support annual budgets and periodic forecasts for manufacturing costs, absorption, utilization, and productivity., • Prepare cost and operational performance reports (e.g., yield, scrap, labor efficiency, capacity/throughput, absorption)., • Maintain and improve cost accounting processes and internal controls; ensure accuracy and integrity of data within the ERP and reporting systems., • Act as the accounting interface with ERP (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics, Epicor, or similar) for cost, inventory, and GL design/functionality; support master data governance., • Prepare and provide information for tax preparation and submission., • Support order-to-cash tasks (e.g., reviewing order entry data for billing readiness, accuracy checks)., • Support procure-to-pay tasks (e.g., preparing POs, coordinating with suppliers and requestors when needed). Job Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field., • 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant manufacturing cost accounting., • Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory valuation, and manufacturing variances., • Solid US GAAP knowledge and financial close experience., • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups/index-match, complex formulas, modeling/data analysis)., • Experience with manufacturing ERPs (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics, Epicor, or similar)., • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills., • Must be a U.S. person (due to export control/trusted supplier rules). Preferred • CPA or CMA (or active progress toward certification)., • Experience in multi-plant or high-volume manufacturing environments., • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or operational KPIs., • Experience supporting inventory counts and audit processes., • Experience with payroll, intercompany, and cash management entries. Physical & Work Environment • Primarily office-based with periodic presence on the shop floor for production walks, inventory counts, and operational reviews., • Occasional overtime during peak close, audit, or inventory activities.
