We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative consultant to become a core member of our friendly, supportive Dermatology Department at Beckenham Beacon. Beckenham is a pleasant suburb in the London Borough of Bromley, with excellent transport links to central London (25 mins) and surrounding areas. There are high quality schools nearby, including state grammar schools.We provide a very high-quality multidisciplinary dermatology service, with high levels of patient satisfaction. We offer services in general dermatology (including biologics), skin cancer, paediatric dermatology, skin surgery, phototherapy, PDT and iontophoresisMain duties of the jobThe post holder will join a team of five Dermatology Consultants (3.6 WTE), two Specialty Doctors, a Clinical Fellow and Clinical Nurse Specialists working across the South Sites (Beckenham Beacon, The Princess Royal University Hospital & Orpington Hospital).The post is based at Beckenham Beacon. The post holder will also cover acute dermatology at Princess Royal University & Orpington Hospitals. This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the Care GroupShared responsibility with other colleagues for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis. Responsible also for covering colleagues’ periods of annual leave and short-term sickness as detailed in your contractProvide clinical supervision of junior medical/dental practitionersas a shared responsibility with other consultant colleaguesResponsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to CPD and clinical governance initiativesResponsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group’s management team where part of the service structureContribute to the Care Group’s research interests in accordance with the Trust’s R&D frameworkContribute to the audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, Clinical Governance programmes and Learning from DeathsTake an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the Care Group’s Business Plan. This may include assisting with discussions regarding service plans and developments with internal and external agenciesConduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s)Exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the specialty. This will include fostering and developing projects focused towards these ends and ensuring that the momentum of post-qualification professional education and other appropriate training is maintainedWork in conjunction with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced. Any applications not meeting these criteria will not be consideredTraining and ExperienceCompletion of specialist training programme in DermatologyWide experience in all aspects of Dermatology, culminating in award of Certificate of Completion of Training by GMC, or award of Certificate of Eligibility for Specialty Registration (CESR) by GMCDermatology Subspecialty InterestAdministrationExperience in day-to-day organisation of Dermatology services in a busy Teaching HospitalFamiliar with current structure of UK National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changesManagement and LeadershipAble to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teamsManagement course and/or qualificationAudit ,Research and PublicationsThorough understanding of principles of medical audit.
