About The Role Do you want to be at the forefront of one of the world’s most ambitious sustainability initiatives? As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster. Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Social Impact Advisor to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland. What you'll be doing To support the delivery of social impact initiatives on the NZT Power project, implementing the Local Content Plan to ensure activities meet client expectations, local needs, and the Building New Futures strategy. This role works closely with project teams, partners, and the Teesside community to coordinate activity, engage stakeholders, and report on progress. Project Delivery & Planning • Support the delivery and evidencing of social impact action plans for NZT with the Social Impact Manager, ensuring activity aligns with the Building New Futures strategy and client commitments, • Coordinate the day-to-day planning and delivery of events, activities, or workshops involving communities, schools, or partners, • Coordinate and attend events with schools, colleges, and universities, promoting STEM and construction careers, • Carry out associated needs analysis and align with client requirements and/or Government policy on progressive procurement for the relevant location as required, • Assist with logistics, scheduling, and materials for community events, education sessions, or engagement activities Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership Building • Build and maintain relationships with local stakeholders, including site teams, schools, colleges, community groups, and VCSE organisations, • Engage local supply chain, identifying opportunities for working collaboratively to coordinate opportunities such as apprenticeships, volunteering, or work experience, • Represent the project in community facing activities, • Maintain awareness of internal and supply chain apprenticeship opportunities, supporting outreach and referrals where relevant People & Team Support • Contribute to a positive team culture by sharing updates, insights, and good practice with colleagues across the regional and national teams, • Support onboarding of new team members or early careers colleagues through informal knowledge sharing or buddying, • Work collaboratively with the Social Impact Manager and Regional Lead to ensure aligned delivery and consistent communication Work Winning & Local Intelligence • Support bid teams by gathering local intelligence, drafting example activities, and preparing supporting content or data, • Provide input to social impact sections of tender responses or internal reviews as needed, with support from the Social Impact Manager or Regional Lead Data, Measurement & Reporting • Ensure accurate and timely data entry into the Sustainability Portal for all assigned projects, • Monitor delivery against key performance indicators (KPIs) and support the preparation of client or internal reports, • Gather feedback, photos, and data from events or partnerships to evidence outcomes and inform continuous improvement Communications, Innovation & Recognition • Capture case studies, quotes, and visual content from activities to support internal and external communications, • Share examples of best practice and lessons learned with the wider team, • Support internal campaigns and initiatives such as Early Careers, the Value Everyone network, or Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) reporting Who we're looking for Programme Delivery & Planning • Experience supporting the delivery of community, education, social impact, or volunteering initiatives, • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage tasks, coordinate stakeholders, and support delivery plans effectively, • Understanding of how community needs, local priorities, or client expectations shape project delivery, especially in Teesside, • Awareness of relevant legislation and regulation to support delivery of client commitments Stakeholder Engagement & Influence • Confident communicator, able to engage with schools, community groups, site teams, and supply chain partners in a professional and approachable way, • Able to build trusted relationships and adapt communication to different audiences, • Experience working directly with members of the public or local communities is desirable People & Team Contribution • Enthusiastic team member, willing to contribute ideas, ask questions, and learn from others, • Proactive in sharing updates and collaborating with colleagues across projects or functions, • Experience working as part of a team and supporting joint delivery Data, Impact & Reporting • Comfortable using digital tools to input and track data, or willing to learn, • Awareness of local issues such as employment, skills gaps, or community needs, • Attention to detail when recording, reporting, or communicating social impact outcomes Communications & Innovation • Able to write short case studies or updates to share with others, with support, • Interest in innovation, continuous improvement, and community engagement, • Competent in using Microsoft Office tools Why work for us Our people are our biggest asset and we focus on recruiting, training and developing the people who can apply innovation to deliver the infrastructure of the future.
