Mechanical Design & Test Engineer – Space Sector Glasgow Area Full-time | Permanent A leading organisation in the UK space sector is seeking a Mechanical Design & Test Engineer to support the development, testing, and delivery of complex electro-mechanical systems for next-generation space technologies. This role is ideal for engineers with 5–10 years’ experience in aerospace, space, high-tech product development, or a similarly demanding engineering environment. You’ll work across a variety of systems and have the chance to shape products from concept through to test and integration. What You’ll Be Working On You’ll contribute to a wide range of engineering activities, including: • 3D CAD modelling and detailed manufacturing drawings (SolidWorks/Autodesk), • Pressure test equipment, • Composites fabrication, • Infrastructure commissioning, • Product development, • System-level assembly, integration, and test Key Responsibilities • Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for manufacture., • Lead internal design reviews and support supplier/client technical discussions., • Collaborate with electronics engineers on subsystem integration (sensors, PCBs, comms hardware)., • Develop engineering solutions across structures, propulsion, thermal, and safety systems., • Apply DfX principles for efficient manufacturing and servicing., • Develop and execute test plans (shock, vibration, thermal cycling, IP standards)., • Analyse test data and contribute to design improvements., • Support prototype builds and practical engineering activities., • Communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Essential Skills & Experience • Degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or equivalent industry experience., • Strong design engineering background across complex electro-mechanical systems., • Proficiency with CAD and PDM tools., • Hands-on testing experience., • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (CNC, sheet metal, injection moulding, 3D printing)., • Ability to obtain/hold UK security clearance (BPSS)., • Strong documentation and communication skills. Desirable • Experience with composites or advanced materials., • Understanding of pressure systems (PSSR)., • Working knowledge of FEA/CFD., • Practical prototyping and workshop skills. Why Apply?
