Senior Geotechnical Engineer Type: Full-Time, Permanent Location: Hybrid (UK) with an initial 1-month training period at RH1 4DP, followed by occasional site visits and office meetings as required. Following the recent acquisition of Platipus Anchors Ltd and its in-house design team, we are now expanding our geotechnical design capability within infrastructure. We deliver technically robust and cost-effective solutions for both temporary and permanent works, designed in accordance with leading international standards including Eurocode, BS, CIRIA, AASHTO and French NTC. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a highly capable Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our specialist design team. This role offers exposure to a wide range of challenging projects and the opportunity to grow within a technically strong group that values engineering excellence, innovation and continuous improvement. The Role This position will focus on analysis, geotechnical design and technical reporting for excavation support and earth retention. You will be responsible for designing and checking systems using mechanical anchors, soil nails, grouted anchors and rock anchors, while considering ground conditions, construction methodology and long-term performance. You will work closely with clients, contractors, engineering partners and internal teams to drive best-practice solutions, providing impartial geotechnical insight from concept through to construction. Key Responsibilities • Undertake geotechnical design and analysis for temporary and permanent works, including slopes, retaining structures and ground reinforcement, • Interpret ground investigation data and soil laboratory results, applying soil mechanics principles and recognised design methods, • Produce and review Geotechnical Design Reports (GDRs), design calculations and technical drawings., • Review design briefs, requesting further information where required to ensure clear and accurate project definition, • Provide robust design risk management, value engineering input and constructability advice, offering alternative proposals where beneficial, • Deliver technical guidance and training to internal engineering, sales and operations teams, • Liaise with clients, contractors and regulatory bodies, presenting technical information clearly and professionally, • Support continuous improvement initiatives, advancing engineering tools, methods and quality processes, • Manage your own workload and assist team leaders in meeting programme and commercial objectives About You • BEng/BSc/MEng/MSc in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology, • Chartered or actively working toward CEng / CGeol / CSci, with commitment to CPD, • 4–7 years’ relevant experience in geotechnical or temporary works design, • Strong understanding of UK geotechnical practices, soil mechanics, and soil-structure interaction, • Proven experience specifying and interpreting ground investigations and testing, • Skilled in the design of earthworks, slopes, foundations, retaining walls, soil nails or mechanical anchors, • Familiar with CDM 2015 responsibilities and temporary works procedures, • Competent user of AutoCAD 2D, Rocscience Slide and Excel; experience of FE modelling (e.g., Plaxis) advantageous, • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of producing clear technical deliverables, • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple live projects What We Offer • Competitive salary and benefits, • Remote and flexible working environment, • Opportunity to work on technically challenging UK and international projects, • Professional development support, including Chartership pathways, • A collaborative team culture grounded in engineering quality, innovation and knowledge sharing
