Are you an experienced Protection Engineer ready to lead substation protection projects from concept through to commissioning? We are seeking a Protection Lead Engineer to take technical ownership of transmission and distribution projects across the UK, supporting major clients cross the region. As Protection Lead Engineer, you will take full technical responsibility for delivering protection systems for substation projects ranging from £500k to £10m, typically running from 8 months to 2 years, managing 1–4 projects at different lifecycle stages. You will lead the solution from bid review through detailed design, factory testing, and commissioning. Technical Review & Solution Definition • Review customer specifications and compare against tendered offers, • Identify deviations and ensure alignment with customer expectations, • Functional Design Specifications, • Protection philosophies, • Bills of Materials Define protection solutions for: • Feeder protection, • Transformer protection, • Busbar protection, • Specify and configure protection schemes including:, • Distance protection, • Differential protection, • Overcurrent protection, • Tripping systems (Disturbance Recorders / DR), • Electrical schematics, • Panel designs, • General arrangements, • Wiring diagrams, • Maintain regular technical coordination meetings with Project Managers and customers, • Provide technical clarification and coordination with panel manufacturers, including facilities such as GE Grid (Bilbao), • Validate panels upon receipt in Stafford, • Develop and issue FAT procedures, • Lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) with customers (typically 1 week duration) You will deliver complete protection systems for HV substations, including: • Protection relays & schemes, • Control and protection panels, • IEC 61850 integration, • Electrical design documentation, • End-to-end technical leadership
