Job DescriptionJob Title: Welder/Fitter Job Description This role combines precision welding and fitting in an industrial fabrication shop that produces custom steel structures of varying size and complexity. You will interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings, prepare materials, and perform high-quality MIG and TIG welds on carbon steel and other metals while maintaining strict safety and quality standards. The position is ideal for a skilled welder/fitter seeking long-term stability, hands-on work, and opportunities to grow into lead or supervisory roles. Responsibilities • Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings to determine weld locations and fit-up requirements., • Use drawings and 3D models to accurately locate, align, and fit components prior to welding., • Prepare materials for welding, including cutting, grinding, beveling, and fit-up of carbon steel and other metals., • Perform MIG welding on carbon steel components to meet strength, quality, and appearance standards., • Execute TIG welds as needed on specialized parts, including stainless steel and other applicable materials., • Collaborate closely with fitters and other team members to ensure accurate placement, structural integrity, and efficient workflow., • Inspect welds visually and with basic quality checks to confirm consistency, proper penetration, and overall weld quality., • Operate welding equipment, overhead cranes, grinders, and fabrication tools safely and effectively., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with shop safety practices and PPE requirements., • Follow established shop procedures and production schedules in a fast-paced, project-driven environment., • Contribute to a team-based workflow, supporting fitters with tacking and following through with MIG/TIG welding as needed.Essential Skills, • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings., • Proficiency in MIG welding on carbon steel, with the ability to pass a visual weld test., • Experience welding carbon steel, stainless steel, and/or aluminum using MIG, TIG, and Stick processes., • Ability to prepare materials for welding, including cutting, grinding, beveling, and precise fit-up., • Skill in producing welds that consistently meet quality, strength, and visual appearance standards., • Familiarity with weld inspection requirements and basic quality control checks., • Ability to operate welding equipment, overhead cranes, grinders, and other fabrication tools safely., • Strong understanding of shop safety practices and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)., • Preferably 2+ years of welding and fitting experience in a fabrication or similar environment., • Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to long-term employment.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding processes across different materials., • Background working with carbon steel using MIG and stainless steel using TIG., • Familiarity with industrial fabrication of large steel structures., • Ability to work from 3D models in a team-based fitter/welder workflow., • AWS welding certification is a plus but not required., • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, project-driven setting., • Willingness to collaborate closely with fitters and other welders to achieve high-quality results.Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in an industrial fabrication shop that focuses on large steel structures and custom builds. The standard shift runs Monday through Thursday from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with overtime available on Fridays as needed. Work follows a team-based workflow where fitters tack components using 3D models and welders follow with MIG and TIG processes. The shop operates with a safety-first culture, supported by modern welding equipment, overhead cranes, grinders, and other fabrication tools. The environment is fast-paced and project-driven, with an emphasis on productivity, quality, and adherence to safety procedures while working in typical industrial shop attire and appropriate PPE. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tulsa, OK. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
