Grants and compliance • Approve grants to US charities that have passed the Foundation's due diligence., • Oversee the Foundation's annual IRS Form 990 and its state charitable registrations., • Support accountability, transparency, and risk management. Investment and financial oversight • Take part in board discussions on how the Foundation holds and manages its assets., • Weigh the opportunities and risks of investments prudently, in line with a US charity director's duties., • If appointed as an officer, act as an authorised signatory on the Foundation's US bank account, which involves completing the bank's identity checks. Who we are looking for Essential • A US citizen or permanent resident, living in the United States., • Reliable and responsive, able to attend meetings when required, and return signatures promptly., • Comfort with an endowment model for the Foundation., • Sound judgement, and an understanding of a nonprofit director's duties, or a willingness to learn them., • No conflicts of interest with the Foundation, its service providers, or the charities it funds. Desirable • Experience on a nonprofit board, or in finance, investment, law, or accounting., • Familiarity with donor-advised funds or US charitable grant-making., • Comfortable working across time zones with a UK-based team. Practical details • Voluntary role, with reasonable expenses reimbursed., • Around three hours a month, plus occasional approvals between meetings., • A term of three years, renewable., • Appointment is subject to standard identity and background checks, and to approval in line with the Foundation's Bylaws. Senior Tax Accountant Bellmore, NY If you’re good at a bit of everything, why take a job that only lets you do 1 thing? This is a 30 person CPA firm where being an all rounder is actually useful. You’ll work across accounting, financial statements and broader client work, with exposure to businesses ranging from established companies to start ups. It’s a role for someone who likes understanding the whole client rather than being handed 1 tiny piece of the puzzle. There are 5 Partners, so it’s small enough to have proper access to the people making decisions and big enough to give you interesting work and room to develop. There’s also a rather sensible approach to busy season. You’re looking at around 50 to 52 hours rather than the 65 hour weeks that seem to have become some peculiar badge of honour in public accounting. There’s flexibility around your start and finish times too. The role is fully office based in Bellmore and they use Lacerte. You’ll get 2 weeks PTO and there isn’t a formal sick day policy. If you’ve built broad public accounting experience and quite like the fact you can prepare financial statements, handle accounting work and actually talk to clients, this is worth knowing about. You don’t necessarily need a new job. You just need to be curious whether there’s a better one. Here’s the part most people get wrong: you don’t need to tick every box to introduce yourself. The apply button is not legally binding. Worst case? We chat, decide the timing isn’t right, and you carry on. Best case? You bag yourself a fantastic new position. Prefer the human touch? Splendid. Ring me up. I’m at 646-540-9666. Sometimes Indeed hides my number. If they’re sneaky like that, you'll find my details on LinkedIn. I’m Georgina Ross at Distinct North America. Also, I get it can be hard to talk with the fear of your Managing Partner walking past your office. I’m around early (6am EST) and after-hours too.
