Job Description Are you looking for a great culture and an exciting clinic? Pine Hollow Veterinary Services has an opportunity at our Western Reserve Animal Clinic! We are looking to add a Registered Veterinary Technician that is a graduate of an accredited veterinary technology program who has successfully passed applicable board examinations and maintains active credentialing in accordance with state veterinary medical board regulations. Major Goals and Responsibilities Veterinary Technician is knowledgeable in veterinary medicine, animal care, and husbandry, with a strong foundation in pharmacology and mathematical accuracy for drug and fluid administration. This individual is skilled in animal restraint, laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging, anesthesia monitoring, surgical assistance, and dental procedures. The Veterinary Technician delivers compassionate nursing care, educates clients clearly and empathetically, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while upholding Pine Hollow Veterinary Services’ mission and core values. The Registered Veterinary Technician is expected to: • Provide exceptional medical care and technical support to patients, • Deliver friendly, helpful, and professional customer service, • Respond quickly, think critically, and make sound medical decisions, • Work collaboratively with veterinarians and support staff, • Utilize practice management software, Google Workspace, and Microsoft programs, • Safely and calmly restrain patients, including those who are stressed, painful, or fearful, • Perform multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment, • Demonstrate a genuine desire to work with animals in all health conditions, • Process Credit Card payments Commitment and Schedule • Employment Status: Full-Time, • Hours: Minimum of 32 hours per week, • Work Schedule: Monday–Friday; clinic open one Saturday per month Essential Skills and Knowledge The Veterinary Technician must demonstrate: • Ability to assist veterinarians in wellness, medical, and surgical cases, • Strong verbal and written communication skills with clients and team members, • Proficiency in math and measurement for accurate dosing and calculations, • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure, • Ability to assess urgency and severity of patient needs, • Understanding of veterinary policies, procedures, and workflows, • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, • Knowledge of veterinary equipment, instruments, and supplies, • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, • Strong work ethic and positive attitude, • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, standing, kneeling, and restraining patients, • Proficiency with practice management software for medical records, invoicing, estimates and patient care documentation, • Active registration, certification, or licensure per state requirements Ohio With Veterinary Supervision • Administer anesthesia, including induction, intubation, maintenance, and recovery, • Induce and monitor general anesthesia, • Perform dental prophylaxis, • Perform uncomplicated dental extractions (non-sectioning, no bone resection), • Place intravenous catheters, • Suture skin incisions, • Removes sutures, drains, and staples, • Implant microchips, • Place male and female urinary catheters and collect samples, • Perform fine needle aspiration of peripheral lymph nodes and superficial masses, • Puncture abscesses with a needle, • Take radiographs with proper restraint and positioning, • Perform venipuncture, • Obtain objective patient data without diagnosis, • Perform cystocentesis, • Collect and process laboratory samples, • Administer immunizations not legally required to be given in the presence of a veterinarian, • Administer injections via intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intravenous routes, • Administer controlled substances, • Apply wound dressings, casts, and splints, • Prepare patients, instruments, equipment, and medications for surgery, • Assist veterinarians in medical, diagnostic, immunologic, and surgical procedures, • Perform laser therapy Registered Veterinary Technicians are also expected to: • Assist veterinarians in all patient care scenarios, • Obtain and record patient histories and vital signs, • Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare reference lab samples, • Provide nursing care for hospitalized, surgical, and medical patients, • Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment, • Maintain familiarity with common medications, preventatives, nutrition, and vaccines, • Provide client education materials and discuss treatment options and financial resources, • Support clients through sensitive situations including terminal illness and quality-of-life discussions, • Maintain current knowledge of veterinary healthcare recommendations, • Handle client concerns and complaints professionally, • Maintain inventory of medications, supplies, and equipment, • Maintain clinic cleanliness and organization, • Work professionally with outside organizations requesting patient records, • Attend staff meetings and vendor-sponsored educational events, • Contact clients regarding reminders, follow-ups, and patient care instructions, • Perform client follow-up calls for post-treatment and at-home care, • Be punctual and reliable, • Follow through with assigned tasks and responsibilities, • Perform duties of a receptionist and assistant technician as needed We value reliability and teamwork.
