JOB SUMMARY: The Chemist in Quality Control and Applications is responsible for the instrumental and wet chemistry techniques for testing materials, finished products, customer samples, and components. The testing includes, for example, ICP-OES, IC, and wet chemistry. The Chemist will work in the laboratory in a safe and effective manner. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Analytical testing of materials, finished products, customer samples, and components. This testing will primarily be instrumental ICP-OES, IC, along with wet chemistry techniques., • Performs QC testing, generates C of As, and maintains documentation for QA/QC program., • Will train lab personnel on ICP, IC and other lab equipment and procedures., • Becomes familiar with the appropriate specifications and methods for testing., • Execution of mathematical calculations outlined in the test methods., • Analysis of data to determine if material tested meets specifications., • Determines mathematically what is necessary for and advises production on the blending of final products to meet specifications., • Assists with development of test methods, writing and validating procedures for customers., • Assists with product development including formulating, prototypes, reliability, safety, and environmental testing., • Maintains meticulous records and assists with laboratory audits., • Learn aspects of the water treatment industry from colleagues., • Prepares data summaries and reports for salesmen and customers., • Assist with the development of a laboratory and company-wide quality management plan., • Assists with preparation and shipping of samples to customers and field agents., • Assists with preparation of safety data and product data sheets., • Maintains material inventory in the lab, maintains laboratory safety data sheet files., • Maintains a clean and orderly work area. Cleans counters and storage areas and maintains records of samples. Consolidates samples for disposal as directed., • Maintains and further assists lab manager with NSF documentation., • Maintains the organization and operational efficiency of the laboratory working towards continuous improvement., • Complies with all ANSI, EPA, DOT, and OSHA regulations and company policy including hazardous wastes., • Reports all accidents, injuries/illnesses, spills to supervisor., • Adhere to ISO documents and meet company / department quality, environmental & safety objectives., • Other duties as assigned. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field., • 1 + years experience in laboratory work must include preparation of samples, following written procedures, record keeping and excellent interpersonal skills., • Ability to work for extended periods of time without direct supervision., • 1+years of experience including practical experience with ICP, IC, and wet chemistry techniques. Use of Microsoft Office products, especially Microsoft Excel is a must. Licensing & Special Requirements • Incumbent is subject to a criminal background check., • Incumbent is subject to drug screening. WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The incumbent must be able to lift 50+ lbs, carry, twist, walk, bend, rotate, and stand. Must be able to be visually and spatially aware of surroundings and be able to hear. Must be able to work in varying temperatures and in environments such as the laboratory, production floor, and general office settings. Proper PPE is required at all times.
